German for sure. Very creative at coming up with patterns. All though it might look cool if the US used that new digitalized camo on a tank.

I think the germans would have had the most effective schemes. That would be combinations of yellow, red-brown and green.
Can anyone answer why they would have used grey on their armor and uniforms? I'd think that would stand out quite a bit when in the fields.

I agree that the germans used the best or most interesting camo schemes in WWII but recently a lot of good camo schemes can be found from different nations' armed forces.

I agree also that the Germans had the best camo patterns of WW II.

Joe, gray is the hardest color for the human eye to distinguish so as far as monotone colors go, it's the best choice. Yes in some situations it would stand out but in most is an effective color.

I think that the German schemes of WWII were by far the most interesting. I'm especially fond of the Ambush pattern.

Finland you say? I´m from Finland myself but never really thought about that (never really studied Finnish camo).

In the war the germans would feild many differnt colors and patterns on their armor..... this is probably part of their great appeal to modelers.

Thanks for the explanation.
Now, my question would be, why not use the grey as a base ( which I know they did in some instances) and use some other colors for a disruptive pattern?

For WWII camo, here's my 2 cents:

1. Germans

2. Finns (Man, the Finns had some weird camo's)

3. Japs

4. Italians (Don't forget some of their weird European Schemes)

5. USA (Most people think of only OD, but good ole Uncle Sam also used browns, blacks, and white (and I'm not talking just for winter))

6. Russians (Just not a lot of variation. Green, some brown, and then white for winter.)

I pretty much agree with this but I think I would put the Japanese above the British and I can't think of any Finnish schemes at the moment. For some odd reason I like the British "Micky Mouse" scheme.

Well, panzer gray is a real yawn, but ambush is awsome! I guess the more you have to hide, the more creative your camo gets! I'd rate the Germans as first in this one.

The Finns had several schemes.

The main two that are coming to my mind are the Gray, Brown, and Green scheme which was their "standard" summer scheme. Then there was the "winter" scheme with the large blue strips.

The British did some interesting schemes in the desert, and there is no doubt that the "Mickey Mouse Ear" scheme is interesting.

The Japanese were all over the place. Different Greens, Browns, and Khaki's.

One I did forget to mention was the French. They had some interesting camo's too.

But, there is no doubt about it. As far as flexability goes for a "official" camo scheme. Nobody beats the German's from 1943 to 1945.

personally the germans were great at using paint camo,but the Brits an U.S. done a far better job at using natuarl landscapes.like trees,mud and sand bags.they came up with very creatied usage of natuarl folage.
