finished KV-1e 12 pics
Posted by treadwell on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 9:13 PM

Hey guys,

I have hemmed and hawed with myself over posting these pictures for various reasons.

It has been over a year for me since I have completed a build, but, for better or for worse here are the pics of my KV-1e in 1/35th scale. My second build in this scale.

It represents a vehicle that has had luck in combat to have survived for so long, yet is nearing the end of its' duty.

Thanks for taking time to look,

tread

WOW, Treadwell--that's beautifullu done! The finish is not only excellent, but it's a very smartly-conceived build, with the fenders missing and all.

Great to have you showing something again!

Brilliant weathering brother Tread, just looks sweet. Looks pretty darn mean without the fenders. Glad to see you back at it. I too have gotten little completed.

~treadman ~ Great lookin finish ~ I love it. I guess you feared critics in the anti-rust court, personally, I love what you've done. The textures are rich(turret cast look is Thumbs Up [tup]) The thing looks like it's been rode hard and hung up dry day after day.

That's one mean looking KV Tread, love everything about it. Fantastic painting and very realistic looking tracks. Welcome back and hope to see more of this type of work from you soon.

Tread, I have no idea why you hemmed and hawed over this(I'm sure you have your reasons), but this as always is a work of art. I love the concept of an old warrior nearing the end of its service life. You have captured that in every detail. (insert applause)

I'm glad you decided to post this one Brother Tread! The concept fits perfectly with the finish IMHO and the missing fenders and details around the paint/rust with the bolt holes has just the right effect and attention to detail. Thumbs Up [tup] Thumbs Up [tup]

I really like the finish. It most certainly conveys the impression of a well-worn unit. It looks like it's ready to spontaneously dis-assemble.....

Hey Tread,

It's always a pleasure to see one of your builds.

Love the grimy "almost but not quite" crusty look, and the rusty "shadows" of where parts once were.

WOW!Smile [:)]

Thanks guys for the warm responce to my build!

Actually I am kind of shocked. I haven't posted for so long it seems.

It is such a 'bare bones' build--green and OOB --actually less than OOB with all the stuff I left off!

I sincerely thank each and every one of you guys -- you made my day!

Boy, it was a killer for me not to make it to AMPS this year, I missed all you East coastguys : (

I do have a question: Schnobs and Bodge-- you guys said my paint job had good mapping---

I hate to be so ignorant (or maybe it's just cause I paint the way I feel it), but what is 'mapping' ?

Thanks guys

tread

Terry-- check your P.M.s

Hey Tread,

"Mapping" is one of those"buzz-words" used to describe a painting/weathering technique where irregular patches of semi-transparent paint are "stacked" in a manner resembling elevation lines on a topographical map. This creates the appearance of graduations/layering of varying shades/density of paint/dirt etc. I think many of us were doing it long before it acquired a "label".

Tread, awesome job on that KV-1!!Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  I had wondered a while back if I missed the completion of it; I was following the thread, then I didn't see it again until now.  Anyway, its great that you posted this...don't know what the hemming and hawing was about!  You did an amazing job on the kit and the painting is absolutely outstanding!  Can't wait to see more of your fine work!

`~Thanks Tread ~ The Trumpiter KV comes highly recommended. The Fruils were obvious(and ideal!) So these pictures were held back from release ~ Theat means the next build is likely well underway...Yes?

Great work. Love your finishing. It really captures a the look of a Soviet AFV that's been through a lot.

WOW!

I would have responded earlier but, I had to fix the hole my jaw made when it dropped through the floor!

Now all you need is to add a figure for scale.

Maybe posed leaning on the tracks with a smirk on his face!
