Dragon's new 1/35 Tiger II in da house!
Posted by J-Hulk on Monday, December 29, 2003 3:48 AM
Howdy, folks!
Just picked up Dragon's new 1/35 Tiger II. It looks very nice in the box! We get a PE fret for the grills, choice of the two types of barrels, and a bit of twine for the tow cables.

The majority of the parts are brand new, but we get a buncha sprues from their old Jagdtiger, including the running gear and tracks. The wheels look fine to me, but I've heard they're not quite accurate. Other old parts include the exhaust armor and pipes, rear deck engine hatch, rear fenders, forward hull deck hatches, jack, and other small detail parts. Which is fine, since they're all well-made.

The new turret looks good, with a separate cupola and decent gun detailing. Once funny bit is that the gun port on the left side is included as a huge square chunk. That' s gonna take some sanding to do right!

This kit also has a full-color photo-based instruction sheet, which is very well done.

So, even without having built it yet, I'd recommend it! It's selling in Japan for 3,800 yen ($34 USD), but I got mine in a tasty deal for 3,000 ($27 USD)

I've noticed recently that Dragon kits tend to debut worldwide at about the same time, so I reckon some of ya'll out there have picked this baby up already.

Let's here some other opinions about this kit!

Sure: the early version of the gun barrel was monobloc (one piece) and the later version (from May 1944) was sectional. Dragon gives you both, but I think most vehicles with this turret had the monobloc gun. Vehicle #114 (as depicted on the box art) had the sectional gun.

Laxman, it's the Porsche version. I'm holding out hope for the Henschel version. Any scoop on that Brian? Dragon tends to release all versions eventually.

G'day Brian-san,
Sounds like a nice model, certainly a nice tank! Photo-etched grills and twine for tow cables... Very cool!! It's about time some one included photo-etched parts. Can't wait to see it, I'll be needin' a tank to go with the left over figures from my next dio... Model building is an evil hobby isn't it? Forever feeding and growing. Bring it on Dragon, we need our precious! Evil [}:)]

Typical.. Just after I go and fork out some 60 euro's for the Tamiya one with the DKW motorbike.. Oh well.. I was mildly disappointed with the rubber tracks, but the ones on the M2A2 look fine, so I suppose I shouldn't worry too much..

Any comments for me on that one, by the way? Things to look out for etc.

Been looking forward to this release for a while. Glad as heck it is a Porshe Turret and the ability to choose between a monobloc or sectional. Sharing parts with the their JagdTiger isn't to bad as the kit was pretty good, but I do also beleive their was some inaccuracies. Thanks for the news J..and looks like I am getting back into the swing of things at just the right time. Better get that zim ready to go!!

Cheers
