Edmund you really are becoming quite good at this scratch building thing lolWink.

You've done a great job correcting those rear doors. The idea of leaving one of the back doors open to show the stowage underneath is cool. Especially since your going to display it in action. Will you also have one of the side doors opened?

Really fun work, Edmund.  I'm enjoying the heck out of watching you do your magic.

That Flak Sled is one of mine..  I am heading new kit development for Masterpiece Models and this was one of my first masters to make it into production.

Thanks for pointing it out!!

  You very welcome RickBig Smile!

Small world huh? Our own Mr Lawler the designer of that flak sled! When I saw it I immediately thought of you. I figured you wouldn't be able to resist it.

And at that price neither will I.

Rob:  I am glad you like my humor and that is all it is I hope I did not offend or embarrass you Jim or anyone else with my sense of humor. My inner dialog filter brings down late at night so I sincerely apologize if my off beat humor offended anyone.  I just don't take myself that seriously and I forget that some people do and the last thing I want to do is to hurt or offend anyone!

Steve:  Thansk Steve!  Yes I plan to have both rear side doors open for a see through look over and through ammo cans and stowage and one door open in front.  I am not sure about the front doors yet.

Stay Tuned.........................

Looking real good so far Edmund. I have the Tamiya Horch 4x4 which I'm guessing is a later kit, as it is molded in gray, but anyway the rear doors are like yours, so they havent made any changes. Oh well............

Thanks Mike & Wayne for stopping by and leaving a comment.  Every post you leave Wayne makes me smile or chuckle!  Big Smile

Build Update:  I am still detailing the read tailgate and doors.  It was interesting and I am going to o leave some of the more fragile stuff for the end of the build right before paint.  I also still have to detail the inside of the door.  I plan to scratch build a Sd.Ah.51 Ammo Trailer like the following picture.  The DML kit came with the frame and wheels and I should be able to make the box or body of the ammo trailer from references I have found on the web such as this one.

LOL!  Now Lovely would be a perfectly acceptable adjective on a British modeling site because they are the most "civilized" barbarians I have ever had the pleasure to meet.  Love those guys they will but rounds down range and then sit down and have tea and discuss the pattern of lace doilies, and anyone that plays bagpipes over loudspeakers as they head to the FEBA have my respect!

Wbill once posted I had beautiful shells for my Stug III and my wife made fun of me for a week and would walk my work bench and stop and tell me that my AB was Hot!  She loves to tease just like I do!

Wayne will get you straightened out Grandpa's give the best advice!  Big Smile

Build Update:

I finished detailing the open rear door and I shot a coat of primer to see if the correction could be seen.  I f you look closely you can see some of the corrections but I am thinking layer paint and  the hair spray method should take care of that.  If nothing else that is why God made Milliput tarps!

I found a few other real world references of the rear of the door and my Canadian friend Ron provided a number as well and he also provided the blueprints to make my own scratch built  ammo trailer!

That was really brilliant shooting that "working primer" on there , mid-build. I wonder what made it occur to you to do that  Sad   Hhhmm, very smart anyways.Zip it!

Rob:  Thanks Rob yes my buddy Ron has made two of them and he walked me through the process.  I do not think it will be that difficult.  We will find out together!

Adam : Thanks man and yes everyone Adam had suggested a working primer coat on the corrected pieces to c:heck my work and it was really effective and I will put that technique in the the scratch building toolkit!

If you want to see how large the backdoors really were check out the reference pictures!

Thanks Wayne!

That's what the Germans who raised me told me!  Hard Work Rocks!!

Yes Tamiya did not use a smart bomb on the rear tailgate.  i even looked for all the variants of the Horch thinking that Tamiya just went after a less known variant with no luck!

Build Update:  Adam had mentioned how over scale the kit supplied shifters were and my reference photos showed a shift boot so I added that and replaced the shifters with hat pins which look great and are easy to work with.

Bob is the car named Megan?

Build Update:

I made a couple single and double jerry can holder prototypes today and decided to use the Double Holder it just looks squat and mean just like the vehicle.  Thanks Adam for providing your opinion and suggestion to go smaller and double up the bolts.

I am off to bend some really small bits of metal!!  Oh the Inhumanity!

Bob,

Maybe there is a society/group opposed to the flagrant display to cherries being consumed? Just a guess. LOL

Edmund,

I am liking what you've done with the headlights on this beastie.  Oh yeah, the rest of it is looking pretty sutnning as well.

Cheers

Bob&Dave:  Actually I asked Adam to edit the pic with something more appropriate.  Sorry for the confusion.  my wife and daughter often read this together and enough said I guess. Also who would want to look at a Horch made of plastic with Megan around!  Very distracting!!  Big Smile

Thanks Dave for the kind words!

Thanks Tigerman they are from Elf Production of Model Accessories which is a small company owned by Dmitri Kovalev.  They are actually a four piece system that includes the body of the headlight and a reflective insert that can be removed for painting and then replaced,  a plastic light bulb and a plastic light cover.  They are designed for Russian and German Armor and he does business via paypal.  His email address is cakovalevd@sympatico.ca and they are $15.00 per set which icludes 8 pairs of headlights.  i am not affiliated with him just passing on the information gentleman.

Build Update:

The PE madness continues. I have vowed to use as much of the is PE set as possible even though some I will not be able to use as designed because of the Conversion work.

I am constantly referring to the kit directions, PE directions and real world references and also Flak conversion pics to make sure I don't miss anything.  I almost missed the fact that this variant had a small spotlight on the passenger side.  I had not ideal what the kit part was supposed to resemble. It looked like a 1\35th scale boulder!  Also the PE set missed it as well so I had to dig into my Elf Headlight stach and find an appropriately sized replacement.

I also had to move the Rifle racks from the Drivers compartment and move it form the middle of the seats to each wheel well on each side due to the fact that the front outrigger of the Flak38 will be taking up that space.

I also was planning to add my own grab handle to the front dash as per real world references and then I found that part in the PE set.

Cheers!
