ASLAV-25 - Complete
Posted by Konigwolf13 on Sunday, March 14, 2010 7:34 PM

Just completed my ASLAV from the 8x8 GB. There are a few problems with it, the only one that really shows is a missing smoke grenade launcher lost to the carpet monster. As for the other problems, this was a practice run for super detailing two more ASLAV's and all problems have been noted for better accuracy or easier build. I think I over did the antenna glue a bit as well but it was my first time using the guitar string method and I have improvements for next time, it was also my first time for more than 3 parts of PE used so I have some experience here now as well.

So without further a do the photo's

Thanks for any comments or crit's

Andrew, nicely done.  I would have liked to see a bit more wear and tear on grab rails, hatches, etc, Just from the crew moving around on and off the vehicle and dragging stuff across the turret etc.  Looks good !

Hey mate, great work on your finished build. I like it a lot!

You have to let on about the way you applied the mud effect. It's very effective. The way it has 'splashed' on is terrific. And the clumps of dried mud on the lower hull are so realistic.

Your PE work seems quite tidy. I haven't tried it myself so i can't say too much. You did good though..

I think a subtle wash to pop out the details would go a long way for appearances too. Seeing as this is really just a first go and a trial run for future ASLAVS......well.....can't wait to see the next ones.

Just one thing. The box object in front and to the left of the drivers position is actually an external gauge and master warning lights. The driver uses these when he is outside the hatch. It has a speed display and some master warning lights. If a warning light comes on, he drops the seat down and views the main intstrument panel to define the actual problem. Here are a couple of pics. Adding the instument face to your build would make that area look good.

The pics are courtesy of Primeportal. Lots more ASLAV pics there.

Anyway, love the build. It looks like an ASLAV and that's what matters....Big Smile. The Kangarro warning sign is a neat touch to you dio base. Need a couple of bullet holes in it.....Wink

Boomer, already know about the guage, but it would of required editing that this build wasnt for,

Here's a close up of the Trumpy version. It looks like its a armour cover over the top of the guage

As for the mud and splatter?

Mud is just paint mixed with the artificial sand stuff. Applied with brush

Splatter, make desired paint colour mix with water to very thin level (or other thinner depending on paint I used acrylic) position model on old newspaper with plenty behind as well. Then getting an old toothbrush dip bristles in paint mix and drag a finger along the bristles so the spray goes towards to target. I found a distance 9-12 inches worked well

No probs mate. The new pic of the guage box explains it all. I think the cover plate is not armoured as such. I do believe that it is a blackout panel. I thought you may have known what the box was, just thought i would bring it up. It's only ASLAVS that have that i think.

Thanks for the how to on the mud. I had a sneaking suspicion you may have done this. It really looked flicked/splattered on. You achieved an awesome effect though. Well done!

Not a bad effort at mate. Pitty the kit is such a pig.  Dont worry about your green to much. Next time add a little bit of a earth brown to the mix. The real green varies from area to area and the age of the car. Its like US Olive Brab. There is never one correct colour for it.

Next one you do, have a look at my review on the kit. It will advise you of the problems accociated with it.
