Academy Merkava Mk IV

Got a new one on the bench now...

This kit has approx. 500 pieces in it.  About the only negative statement I have for it is that the prevalent Israeli anti-skid really isn't shown well at all on the casting, but that aside, it is a very detailed kit that has so far been a very easy build.

More to come.

Don't forget Hobbyboss kit is far more expensive than Academy..

Yes, Academy kit has its mistake but still overall a nice kit. For me, I will take any Academy kit anyday.

Time for the chains.  The Academy kit give you these "bumps" on the sprue to the right that you are supposed to cut off and then glue to either side of the PE parts at the round end.  I have read a few reviews of this kit and they seem to work pretty well.  However, it seemed rather time consuming and I didn't want to use that much time.  So...

I purchased this small tube of beads at a Hobby Lobby, cut off the round end from the PE part and CA glued them in place.  It seems to work well.

What do you think?

LOVE the Merkava. Looking pretty good so far, I think your technique for the ball and chain is fantastic!

The beads look great as the balls fo rthe RPG screen.  Great idea.  If you want to ad the anti-slip texture, a good product for it is Chinchilla sand from the pet store.  Mix it w/white glue and spread it on.  Here is how it can turn out.  Merk II BAZ model posted at Missing-Links by Ozgur Guner using Chinchilla sand for anti-slip coating.

Keep up the good work.

The ball-and -chain screen looks great. I've been struggling with the Legends stuff for a while on  a Merk2, finally gave up and am using the chains from the Acad kit and white glue for the balls, not as good a result as yours.

I purchased these years ago so they may be gone now of course.  They are labeled as 11/0.  Not sure what the conversion is...sorry.
