Terrific, accurate weld representation, Steve, and drilling all those holes for the skirts must be a biatch 1/35... 

they were killer for me in 1/16 a couple years ago, and your weld seams around the lifting eyelets look superb also .................  Steve , there is just something about Sherman ........dang.....

 Building and painting models is a kind of controlled insanity so anything you do with model building should be an enjoyable experience.

   As for this thread......  like I said, "As it goes it grows". From here on it begins to get a bit more complicated, but yet a bit more interesting. I'm trying to make it pleasant and amusing as this may be the only one I do.

After examining and squeezing all that spruefruit ............... AND having just got back from our monthly club meeting, I don't have the time to post an update tonight.

Dropped in for a couple of pics and a brief update, not a lot tonight.

                                Been doing some other postings.

Now, back to the main event......
 

 Cut out a small section of the hull on both sides and installed the stops for the engine compartment doors, I did it this way to make a stronger joint, no little fiddly parts to break off. Pictured is the initial left side detail..............    yeah, the same on the other side.

 I also added the rear (metal wire) hull lifting lugs. The side armor appliqué welds show but they’re kinda’ blurred.



 Messin' around with my new kit while working on this and I got ahead of myself here. I cut the parts for the area under the hull (right over the exhausts).......

  then forgot to write the measurements down before gluing them together.

 You’ll be able to see the placement/installment and detail better in the next segment………

Busy tonight, it's Friday and my boy is home from college.

Enjoy the family time while you can, the modelling can wait.  I envy you being able to be with your son.  Mine's in Kyrgyzstan and I only get to see him once or twice a year.  All the best.

Just be aware that this particular model of the sherman was another variant of the M4A3. As for the VVSS series, this was probably the ultimate Sherman of WWII and according to various sources only 254 of this version were built...           

 Anyway, there are still a lot of techniques shown here that can be used on any/many Shermans.

  Made some progress..............                 

More detail of the area around the exhaust ventilator

 

below, there’s the rear end showing the added texture and features.

               hmmmmm.....  lookin' kind'a ruff.......

1.    Fuel vent tube added (hypo needle)
2.    Detail for the manual fire extinguisher
3.    Spare track racks filed out so the separate links can be weathered & added later

Closer examination at the very top of the picture will also show the scratched tool attachment points.

   I'm forgettin' to take pictures again.....

   

Here's an earlier close-up of the texture detail with the vent tube and rear mounting hardware made from .060 (scales out to 2.1”) evergreen angle with the small welds made using sprue and the hole placement evenly added using a draftsmans divider. Yeah, it'll be muddied up.

Got the urge to mess with some paint.

Here’s three pictures (after some clean-up, texturing and painting) of the engine exhaust that fits behind the ventilator.

Like I mentioned earlier,  a lot of this won’t be seen but at least you’ll know it’s there.

Next time -  some more detailing on the rear.

 Glad you're pleased Bill.......

  Don't worry William, there are things other than mud which are much more "aesthetically" pleasing and

make it even more interesting than the detail "lost" so to speak.

 The areas shown above, "the exhaust area" will actually be hidden due to the fact of where it is located on the vehicle.

 Be assured the mudding will not take away from this build.......at least in my opinion.
