Heck the way this summer's been going, I'm glad just to finish a model before Autumn! I just finished a "Heavy Metal Mach i" in Auto's, and I'm trying to figure out what's next.

I may paint up that Tiger Coelian (P) that I designed a few months ago....

Now that i would like to see.

Thanks Terry! Tomorrow should be "the day" for it to get the finishing touches. I've got the full week off in connection with the Labor Day holiday (long story), so I have no excuse for not completing it now!

Got the finishing touches done on this one finally this weekend! First up was the application of a pin wash of enamel Burnt Umber to bring out some of the details and add some depth to the previous filter effects. I used a 10/0 pointed brush to apply the pin wash and then used the same brush and some clean thinner to clean up any excess or blooming that occurred.

The entire vehicle received a dull coat using Testors Lusterless Flat in the spray can. Once that was dry, I added the pigment weathering to the lower hull and tracks using a combination of Mig Pigments Rubble Dust, Europe Dust, Dark Mud, and Light Dust. I combined these together as dry powders first to get the shade I wanted and then added water with a drop of dish soap mixed in to break the surface tension to convert the powder into a wet mix. This was applied liberally to the lower hull and tracks with an old paint brush and allowed to air dry.

Using a combination of stiff bristled brushes and dry q-tips, I removed the excess pigment (while wearing a dust mask to avoid inhaling the fine powder) and adjusted the finish until I had it where I wanted it. The final details were added in the form of an RB Models 2m brass antenna and the tow cable on the rear before taking the completed walk-around photos.

Took me about 5 1/2 months to get it done, setting a new record in the process, but was an enjoyable build all around.

Bish, glad to be of help with the pigments. It's a method that I've found works quite. The drop of soap in the water is the real key, a tip I picked up here on the forums from someone a while back.

Bill-  I am very happy to see this cross the finish line.  Five and half month?  Well, it is still faster than couple of my earlier builds.

Another masterpiece to show off in your model room!   Now I am tempted to buy this kit but it has to be Zimm kit this time.  I would have done the same thing replacing all barrels with aluminum sets.

Thanks Andy! The kit builds up very nicely and now DML also has one available on a G hull, so you have a choice there as well. I too am looking forward to the BITW GB and am working on a little filler project in the mean time. More on that later.

Nice job, as always, Bill. It still looks a bit heavy in the pigments believe it or not, for me, on the suspension and wheels, but it's probably the camera or my monitor. IN any case, it's definitely in the realm of "dusty"!

I know how good it feels to get one of these long-jobs done. It took me from March to get that Mustang done. I hope your next one is relaxing and that you have more time to dedicate to it!

Thanks Karl! Could be the zim pattern is making it appear like the pigments are heavier than they are on the real thing...lots of surface area there even though virtually all of the pigment has been removed.

I've got the full week off this week and am working on a Beute KV-1 as a 'fun' diversion until the BITW GB officially starts on the 18th, then will be diving into the Pz IV-C Super Kit and slogging my way through its 1000+ parts!

Stephen, Tigerman, definitely a long-haul effort with long gaps in between the bench sessions but as long as it got completed and on the shelf is what ultimately matters. Appreciate you following along with me.

Jester!, I was wondering the other day where you had gotten off to. Nice to see you posting again! The Flakpanzers tell the tale of the changing tide of air superiority...they just came along too late and in too few numbers to make enough of a difference. The Wirbelwind was one of my very first armor builds when I first started out (still have the Tamiya build in fact!), so this one has a special place as a "revisit" effort. Don't be a stranger!

Sorry Bill, missed the completion post of this one. Well it's another fine looking model bud. Love the dirty dusty feel to the lower hull. I assume we'll be seeing this in FSM sometime....will keep my eye out for it.

I love your DML #6540 Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind that is completed with pics on page 17 and want to marry it...I then want to strafe it with my Typhoon into a smoldering heap of twisted steel and burnt rubber...

I appreciate how far you've come with adding pigments and weathering, especially on the running gear. I think the "mud" looks a little uniform on the road wheels and wonder how a final light scrubbing w/ an old toothbrush would make them look?

Always appreciate your insights Herr Feldmarschall! Nice work on the Typhoon...I think your newly found bride may have just had an accident at the shell catcher after seeing it.

The Typhoon is one of the "unsung heroes" of WWII IMHO...I always liked the brute-force look it had...same thing with the P-47.
