Bish , i agree that Tamiya really came out strong with great kits back then , supperior fit of their kits made them easy to build when compared to the Italeri kits .

I haven't built an Italeri kit since that Elefant. Guess i will see if things have changed when i start on the panzerwerfer. Though that one has been in the stash a while, so might bring back old memories.

You have deffinatly inspired me to try some wheeled armour. I have just stayed with full and half tracked, and ignored this subject.

Heya buddy  :  )

Man, the build came out beautiful !  in every aspect. A very excellent piece.

I for one really like the way the model was photographed. The photo is on the warm side which I feel really compliments the colors in the model. I feel the photography and lighting is also part of the artists presentation of how he/she wants the model to be viewed. I know I am picking on Luftiger, but I am not trying to start anything , I just think its kinda wrong to alter some ones picture and publish it even if he meant no harm. ( I down load pics , enlarge them ,study them, alter contrast, lighting and white balance to learn, but would never republish without consent)

Luftiger, man if you read this, it is just my opinion..I mean no personal offence,. but I will say that's one reason my pictures are all © .

great work shell!

your nit picky pal,

bill

Carl,

Haven't been on the forums lately so am late to the party, very nice work all around on the finish, very eye-appealing and of course your attention to the details and gear is also top notch! Beer

The nitpick that Manny mentions deals with accuracy around when this specific variant of the 234 was produced. All the 234/4s were produced after Dec '44 when hard-edged factory applied schemes were the rule and the surviving photos of 234/4s invariably show them with a three-tone hard-edge scheme as a result. The pic you posted is a 234/2 that was produced prior to when the factory hard-edged schemes were put in place and field applied soft edge were still the norm. The production history of the 234 variants is all over the map (the /1/2/3/4 weren't produced in that order either! Big Smile ) so it's not a simple exercise of taking a photo of one variant and using that as an accurate reference per se for the other variants depending. Beer

As Manny mentioned, it doesn't detract from what you've achieved with the soft edge three-tone at all IMHO. Yes

Here's the Dragon offering (version /1) in the hard-edge...ironic, as this mark did sport the soft-edge scheme as well...

Bish

wbill, for my German armour camo schemes, i have really been relying on the Squadron Signal books. From the discussion on the early war camo, concerning when the switch to all over Pz Grey was made, and other discussion on hard edged schemes and painting vehicles in all over green rather than yellow, i think i need to update my references.

You got any suggestion on decent reference material for this subject.

Bish,

The Squadron/Signal stuff is a bit dated but still generally helpful. As far as current references go, there isn't a single all-encompassing reference I can point to as the hobby-reference movement has been more towards specific vehicles/time periods in recent years. The Panzerwaffe series put out by Ian Allen is pretty good IMHO but is a work-in-progress effort with only 2 or 3 issues in print so far. Sorry I can't be of more help than that, research online and via forums is also a good/better way to go to stay current as more stuff comes to light all the time on this type of discussion. Beer

Thanks bill. The main area i am interested in is getting the dates of when certain schemes were introduce. I think we are all happy as to when the 3 tone scheme was introduced. There is a little bit of confusion over Panzer grey, with some vehicles still not haveing it in France 1940. But for the me, its the late war changes i would like to read up on. The hard edged scheme, leaving the factories in green instead of yellow, that sort of thing. Which isn't helped by the stat the reich was in at that stage.

I have seen that panzer werfer series. But i am a bit weary about buying the first books in a collection which then stops. Though i have bought from Ian Allen, they have done this before with a series on the Luftwaffe, and they are not very good at responding to e-mails.

But your right, and i find it amazing that the further we get from the war, the more we find out. But then i guess alot of it is sorting truth from myth.

Yes, it was photographed on a generic base just for context...it is built fairly clean, as most of my models are...posted it just to show the scheme Bill and I are speaking of...

That should be a nice kit when done. Are you going with the schurzen and two-tone green over brown shapes?

Actually I think it's easy. I did the same for my Marder III. Now a Jagtiger camo is a whole other story. Bang Head
