Wbill and shellback are good examples of great wood work. I'll add Panzerwaffe in there as well.

"scratches and chips would be the next step in my weathering evolution"

I'd suggest starting with worn edges and surfaces versus chips and scratches.  biffa was a real master of this...he uses oil paint ( van *** brown) drybrushing areas that we would expect to see worn-away paint..  Once you get a feel for this chips and scratches is a natural evolution.

ME TOO!  wbill76 makes it look easy and I like his work.  Go check out shellback's current M4A3 with the bulldozer blade...some more masterful work on tools there too!.

Tigerman:  NIce work on an ugly beast!...I think the italians should stick to car designStick out tongue!  I really like the work up front...the decal and the cable on that rounded surface look great!  Camo is real nice too.  Couple suggestions: The rust on the muffler looks a little monotone...maybe it's just the photo.  You may want to vary the color of the wood handles too...again, a bit monotone IMHO.  No chips or scatches?

Overall, WELL DONE!!!

I wonder if Woodland Scenics water affects would work for acrylic lenses...hmmmConfused?

Thank you. Yes, I'm an under-weatherer LOL. Putting scratches and chips would be the next step in my weathering evolution. What I need to do is take a cheepy kit (this was supposed to be) and experiment on it. I'm still learning how to do wood, so it's a work in progress. I think this was a step up compared to my Jagdtiger. Thanks again for commenting.

Nice work Eric-I really like the camo.  And the weathering is spot on.

I agree with you regarding the lenses.  That's one of the areas that most (if not all) Tamiya kits come up short.

For comparison you should take a photo with the Semovente beside the Jadgtiger.....

Job well done.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes it was a little spaced out since my Jagdtiger, but wifey set me up with a long honey-do list. Angry

I'm thinking around September for another GB to kick off. Summer seems to be too busy for everyone. By the time September kicks around, people are slowing down, the weather is cooling off, and the kiddies are back in school.

Andy (Deafpanzer) keeps bringing up a Big Cats GB theme, so we'll probably see in August if there is enough interest in one, or perhaps something else. Stay tuned.

Thanks everyone. Beer

Mike, I really wanted the Ariete markings, but again, they were terribly expensive AM's. I was fortunate that Panzerwaffe rescued me again, because the kits decals shattered on me. He sent me Italeri decals and they were splendid.

I should have noted that I had to saw off the sprocket teeth, because the holes in the tracks were so tiny. I tried sanding the teeth, but there was nothing left. LOL

Thanks again for the nice compliments. I had fun and it turned out better then I thought it would, but took far longer then it should.

Nice work, when these were issued to the Ariete Division as part of the Afrika Korps, they were only vehicle that had a gun big enough to deal with the M3 Grants of the British. If only from the sides. Rommel liked that about them.

Nifty!!! You've pulled off a nice "used" look here. I like the rust job on the mufflers in particular, great work.

Hi Eric... long time pal !  :  )

Man, I  really dig the Semovente YesYes... it looks terrific ! if I may say, it is my favorite of your recent work.

Every thing about it works well together. The color is just perfect and the color and style of the camo is the perfect compliment. And the tracks .... excellent ! ... need I go on ?

Great job my friend !WowToast

Tamiya Semovente finished
Posted by tigerman on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 4:14 PM

Hello all. This is my contribution to the That's Amore GB. Tamiya's Semovente from the early 70's, not the later one with upgrades.

I picked the kit up for $5 and put another $44 in upgrades: the barrel from RB models, and the tracks from Model Victoria.

The kit came with Italeri tracks subbed in and they were way too short.  I was pointed out these resin tracks from Model Victoria and got a great deal from a seller. They snap together and hold very well. I didn't break a single link. Lot's of cleanup on about a third of the tracks.

In hindsight, I wish I got AM lenses, but they were spendy and initially I wasn't going to put a lot of money into it, just the barrel, for the kits were terrible.

I sprayed Model Master Armor Sand Acrylics. I painted the camo by hand with a couple of spotter brushes with Pollyscale Field Grey. Various pinwashes and washes with raw umber, sienna, ochre. I'm not happy with the weathering of the tracks which was a wash of CMK pigments of dark and light dust. The pigments work great by the way and are about half the cost of MIG. The tank was given a light washing and drybrushing with pigments too.
