Who else is building Hummers out there?

How are the Tank Workshop ones? The the new or old pattern isn't really important to me as much as having thme "look" correct. Some of the hummers still have the old tires I hear. If an old one wears out they replace it with another old style one from stores untill it's time to replace the whole set. Then they get the whole set of the new tires. So I've heard.

Maybe you guys can help me out. I'm new to the armor forum, having come from the school where "tanks" are nothing more than something that hangs under your wing. This seems like the thread to ask in...

I want to build a HUMMVEE to go along with my MH-60L from Somalia. I'm looking at some Tamyia M1025s on eBay right now. Are those "correct" for that time and place and did they wear tan or NATO camouflage?

I myself do not know for sure the answer to your question, but the ones in the Black Hawk Down movie had the three tone NATO scheme. You can't ever trust movies to be accurate so that is why I don't know. I do beleive the Tamiya kit comes with the option of the "new" or "old style" mirrors but I am not sure when the "switch" on real hummers took place . Rob G. will prob see this and give a more precise answer he's several written articles on Hummer kits and variants and such.
But I can tell you this, and that is the that the last two Tamiya Hummers are as accurate as you are going to get without buying after market parts. i have a ton of hummer kits by other companies but NONE of them have correct wheels and they all have the old type mirrors. i'm going to scratch build some new type mirrors. I want the new Tamiya hummer but since I am building so many different types at the moment I personally just can't afford three or four hummers at $40 a peice just to build variants. Now if I wanted to build only ONE or TWO "darn-good-hummers-of-perfection" then Tamiya is the way to go if it's in one's budget to do so. Hope i helped some!

Heck yeah i want to see 'em! I have't gotten that Academy kit yet (waiting to strike it lucky on E-bay ) but I'm planning to build the UN version of this vehicle when I get the kit! Hey, speaking of HUMMV's, I gave a model to my father (it was my M3A2, and my dad is a Lt. Commander(for future reference)) and he sent pics to his friends, and military co-workers. My dad recieved an e-mail from a Major, who offered me a ride in a humvee!
as a thanks, I want to build one, that my dad can send to him.

Thats pretty cool beav. Got to ride in one myself at an air force base when we were camping there in boy scouts. was pretty seeing what them things can really do!

Yep, built my dad one [along with a Bradley] for my Dad [retired Sgt] this past Christmas. Now I love building them and am now addicted to armor as well! Military dads are such as bad influence! Your father, like mine before me, has drawn you too to the "Dark Side".

If you want to build a unique HMMWV, then you should scratchbuild the type used by the PsyOp units. They are the basic M1025 with a Loudspeaker system attached to the turret ring. The turret also retains a SAW mount, most of the PsyOp units are armed with the M249 SAW although there are some units sporting the M240. If anybody is interested, I can send you some photos of these HMMWV's from my deployment during OIF. I am with a PsyOp unit and we were deployed to support the 1st Marine Division from February 2003 through September 2003. E-mail your requests to
