Modelling Freebies

Big Smile [:D] that is the face we all should make when we get a complement, but who knew that you could get free stuff to?? I gave my dad my halftrack M3A2, and he promptly sent pics to all of his friends about how proud he was. An Army Major, who got the pic thought it was pretty neat. The result? I can get a free ride in an army HUMMV...pretty cool for a kid who's never ridden in a civililian one...

Rule #1- never touch another's model. They usually deal out enough beatings when THEY break it.

I love getting free stuff. I went to IMPS for the first time and some nice guy who was selling decent kits for cheap let me have one for free- and I barely gave a second's glance at his kits!!! Big Smile [:D]

Well the best thing about it is that "free" good feeling inside upon seing your friends like and appreciate your completed models.

Aside from that I get lots of free flyers that come in with my credit card billings from my kit purchases. He-he-he.

I walked into my LHS on day a few years back and he had some kits stacked on the counter behind the register. This guy is a neat freak about his shop and that is not where kits go. Being a little puzzled about his new lack of order I asked him why they weren't on the shelf. He said a guy he knows had to make a sudden move to China, work related, and could not store or take those kits with him. Said the guy just came by and gave them to him and to get rid of them all for him. Needless to say I walked out with three for free! He didn't ask for a dime just told me "get em off my ****** counter." I really like my LHS owner!

The only free thing I get is from the Wife when I come home from the LHS and than it is only a sermon and a smack on the head.

I've gotten a few kits from my LHS owner. He attends auctions and goes to yard sales and estate sales on weekends. Anything he doesn't want to add to his personal collection or add to his inventory he gives away. I've gotten a few nice things that way.

Right before Christmas 2002, my wife told me to go to the hobby shop and pick up something I liked, give it to her and she'd wrap it for the tree. Being one who likes to be at least a little surprised by the presents, I took three kits off the shelf, put them on the counter with my Visa, and told the salesman to pick one, double bag it, wave my plastic, and hide the other two so I wouldn't know which I was getting. (Iknow, but I'm really anal about some things!) When Christmas morning came around, I opened up my pressies and son of a gun, there were two of the kits (one was the Marder III M, but for the life of me, I can't remember what the other one was). I was so worried that he'd made a mistake and given me the wrong bag, I waited until they were open after Christmas and called to let him know what had happened. He said he didn't and that it was a Christmas present from the store.Smile [:)]

I've never gotten anything besides paint stains everywhere, and man is paint hard to get from under your nails :)
Kind of nice to hear that a few people get something tangible out of it. I just like the feeling I get when I finish a kit. It's kind of like "...ahhhhh....done"
Wouldn't mind some free kits though :)

Alright Beav!

The military 'Humvee' is more fun to ride in anyhow (I can never get those dopey doors to close!). I'm not too fond of the civilian ones... They just look clunky and out of place to me dressed in gloss instead of camo!

well.... lets see. I go to a hobby store in oklahoma city and when I went to buy some models for my B-day, started talking with the owner and I ended up with about a 100$ purchase and the same amount in gifts kits from the owner.... and everytime my wife goes to hobby lobby and sees a model on clearance that I don't have she buys it for me

My friends at school all beware-when the smell of paint is in the air. For, lo, their friend beav, has a whole bottle of it on his hands

another free gift(s) are paint stains on my shirt, floor, hands, and a string of glue that got into my nose and made me cough...

AMEN to that!LOL

But seriously something great happened to me just last week. I won a bid on e-bay for a DML recon team with the dirt bike, a DML set of modern figs, and two sets of misc. WW II soldiers. When the box arrived last week I noticed that the postage was a bit more than it should have been and the box was a little too big. I open it up and find approx 40 different misc. WWII desert British soldiers [still boxed] from about three diff. companies and a Tamiya six pounder cannon with figs! There was also a Tamiya tanker figure [I beleive from a Bradley] thrown in with a note attached saying "I hope it was okay to surprise you with this leftover Tamiya fig."
I was like cool she's a nice seller but too bad I got the wrong thing. To make a long story short i send the seller a nice e-mail expalining that I understood that "things happen" and that I was sure we could take care of the problem. I also added that it was a nice gesture throwing in the Tamiya tanker and that I had a "British Invasion going on in my living room". Anyways she sends me the correct item and then tells me i could keep all the "Brits." and the cannon! She said that no one had won the "Brits" anyway and since I was an understanding guy and it just wouldn't be worth sending me the money to ship them back i could keep them! I had already bought a Quad Tractor w/t 25 pounder for the "towed gun group build" and now i have an extra Brit cannon and figs for a dio! I may have my commando jeep pull the six pounder...decisions...decisions...Big Smile [:D] [It PAYS to be nice!]
