Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Here is my 2 cents the third picture has the most balanced lay out. Though the addition of figures will play a major role in setting the scene and telling the story you want.
A company/squad marching through, train worlkers, the gun crew, the Sd Kfz crew, dirt easement?, paved?, gravel under the ties, signal at the switch. You can do a lot or a little. Have your figures doing something -eating, sleeping, smoking, working on???, cleaning? not jut sranding frozen in a frozen stance. Have them looking at the machines so you end up with the viewers eye following their eyes, flowing along and through the dioramma; not hop scotching all over. Great job so far- good luck on what ever you deside.
Building the perfect model---just not quite yet
I like the layout in the first picture. What would really kick it over the top would be the inclusion of a column of troops along the bottom with the Kubel and some horse drawn artillery as if they are headed to the front lines.
But that's just my vision of what I can see happening there lol. That would be a tall order to produce.

Steve sometimes in 1/72 the better suited figures are the ones that come with certain sets, like a panzer crew for example. I guess if you buy for the figures you get a free kit?I know Dragon has some in that scale, relatively cheap too but overall not much to pick from.
Terry
Steve heres one I did a while back that came with four figures, maybe not a perfect match.
Thanks Terry,There are 30 guys in the pack I ordered. There should be a few that work, although adding a Pz IV may be a cool addition.
Nice haul, these guys are great for ideas...
I didn't mention that you were partly to blame here too Terry.
modelcrazy I didn't mention that you were partly to blame here too Terry.
Thats good to hear. I don't mind taking the blame aslong as its shared around. There is only so much blame my shoulders can take.
I have not stalled on this build. I received the guys yesterday and started to paint them last night. Figures are a serious weakness of mine, especially in 1/72. This may take a while. I'm also starting to lay down the balast for the tracks and some ground cover.
MC what did you decide on for net material? i am not sure what the german poles looked like, just what we used in the late '70s. other subjects, eh? like a romulan battlecruiser?

Tosco makes some really nice figures in plastic, at leastthe ones for my OTS German 105mm. i wouldn't get to detailed on the figures. prime base coat the geman gray green, light tan for the skin than a darker sudge all over and wiped off so it fills some creases. the important thing on a diorama is the story.
is your FLAK going to be deployed? is this just a swich "in the field" or part of a railroad yard, albeit a small one. maybe a switch tower in the back vorner with the kubelwagen parked next to it? that would be less crowded. since that puts the FLAK in the front you could have a parallel road with it on that. just some thoughts.
I'm working on the halftrack today. I'm going to have the flak gun deploying. One of the barrels broke off and I can't find it, so to hide it, there will be a guy removing a tarp off the broken half. I think I can make it work.
Here is the Sd Kfz 7/1 quad AA gun. I broke off 1 of the guns during the build and it went through the wormhole and hasn't come out yet, so I added a tarp to hide my boo boo. Next, I'll build the Kublewagen.Anywho, enjoy.
That's really a nice presentation coming along there.
In the future, if you break of something like a barrel, it's really not hard at all to fabricate an ersatz barrel out of stretched sprue or even just some appropriately-sized sprue, especially if you're going to put a tarp on it. And the tarp ideally SHOULD drape over a barrel to look realistic, in truth. It doesn't look too bad though there.
Love the weathering Steve, I can smell the dust.
