Thanks for the information, Cliff! I have the Gunze colors, but, I'm going to try to use only Acrylics on this build. I'm hoping to have more progress on the Type 4 this weekend.

And I'm looking forward to seeing the camo pattern on your Type 5!

Hey Bruce, I had sprayed the tank with the Vallejo kare-kura/parched grass primer to start and then decided what the hey and pre-shaded the thing with black around the hatches, engine grills etc. Then a second coat of Vallejo k-k to smooth it out. The Gunze-Sanyo k-k is a little bit lighter so I concentrated it on the upper surfaces and then added a few drops of white to it and went back and did the top surfaces.

On an American or Soviet tank that's all green I use about five-six shades but I figured this was enough here. I'll do a little pre-shading with the other two colours and then spray the Gunze paint straight and then add a few drops of white and hit the high points. 

I'd say your daughter's doll house is probably more important. I'm a single guy but I know enough that you have to keep the women in the house happy!

Tell me how did you do the modulation? How did you pre-shade? Did you spray a dark color on the edges before you applied the primer? I really like how this turned out, and I'm going to attempt to duplicate this technique on my Type 4.

Are you going to pre-shade the two other camo colors?

I apologize, I've been slacking on my Type 4, I've been devoting more attention to the Dino GB, and my daughter wants me to finish her American Girl Doll house. Too many projects, not enough time. lol

I finished up the Silly Putty for the first camo colour last night and hopefully will get to airbrushing it in the next week or so. The Kurogane staff car is mostly complete, she needs a clear coat and I'll apply the pin-wash.

You are validated with your concern....when you take the time to narrate and show case your build you want people to get involved with comments, tips, suggestions and discuss the build in general.

I hear what you're saying as I see it too but people are looking at your wip build. Just look at your thread views. 

For example: I work 14 hrs/ day so I just had enough time to reply with one sentence earlier. We;re watching your build, we just can't reply all the time.

First, this build is really looking interesting now. I'm sure this will be another of your usual fine as heck builds. I'm looking forward to seeing more.  :)

Second, yeah, its been kinda dead over here. Personally I had to move out of my house and have moved north to find work. My family is still down south, so this is a tough time for me. Plus all of my stuff is in boxes and storage for now. Trust me, I really want to be working on finishing my builds, as I was sooo dang close to finishing a couple of them before they got packed.

But yeah, its been slow since the beginning of this year.

I wasn't trying to single myself out here, it does seem like the armour forum is deader than Elvis since the first of the year. I haven't seen that many comments on your threads, Pawel's or Rudy's 251 either.

Gee has it been an everlovin' month since I posted anything here!?!

Anyway, I finished priming the Chi-Ri over the weekend. I tried to do a little pre-shading and highlighting. As Hogfanfs pointed out they used this as primer and a base coat over which the camo was applied. In the desperate fighting against an Allied invasion of the home islands the tanks would have probably been committed to combat without any camo. Still one of the things I like about Japanese tanks is the camo patterns so I've started applying the Silly Putty for the masks. 

Yeah same here on the M36E8, just way too much stuff on the plate. Takes me a few seconds to come up with ideas and then monthes to get something built- big bottleneck there...

Yeah, I totally will. . .  if and when I start that project

It had a tiny two cylinder engine, I think our lawn mower has more horse-power. Putting a big engine and maybe a blower on it would be pretty awesome!

The kit does come with the engine too, so you can pose it with the hood up. You get a top up or top down option. Only thing I really don't like is the doors are molded shut and you'd have to cut them to have them open. 

BTW: I did find a site with a bunch of photos while trying to find out how much horse-power the car had.

I'm slowly getting stuff set up for the small dio:

I picked up this Kurogane, a Japanese analog to a Jeep or Kubelwagen.

I intend to set mine up as a staff car, I like the look beside the tank as it's tinyness makes the tank look more massive to me.

Most of the figures I'm using. The two left are Verlinden resin and the two left are the FineMolds plastic ones. Bish explained to me that most of the Verlinden figures tend to run bigger, somewhere around 1/32nd so you end up with these six foot plus / two metre Japanese.

Hey thanks USMC6094, I did consider springing for the metal barrels but HLJ was out of stock and I didn't want to wait so I just went ahead with the plastic one. Looks ok to me so far, hope I don't find a big flat spot when I prime her.

This build was sent to mock me, lol, I have this kit in the stash and sprung for the turned aluminum barrel set, now this thread comes along........

Well, I've gotten most of the interior finished. Looking at the photos looks like I need to hit her with another matte coat before I close her up.

Here's the 75mm and 37mm guns:

The 37mm gun in place in the hull front. There is a seam there but it's on the bottom and won't be seen:

I scratchbuild some seats just to have something in there. There's not much visible in the tiny hatches but at least there's something in there now:

SprueOne: Thanks! I looked at photos of other tanks and I'm guesstimating that burnt metal would be a new vehicle and they'd rust out with time. That's my guess anyway, if not I guess I can always pull it off and repaint it. 

Maybe just the pipes are rusty color but the boxy, armored looking parts might be 'burnt metal'.

I don't really know but just a speculation.

Here's the cupola, FM gives you a sprue of clear parts for the periscopes. I masked off the glass areas with a little white glue last night and cemented it to the turret. 

And here's the muffler, the instructions tell you to paint it burnt metal but I'm guessing rusty metal would make more sense?

Oh, ok, I see the tracks part now. Looks tedious but worth the effort.

Kinda hard to tell in the photos, I couldn't get the phone to focus any closer but the part on the end of the track is the bottom part, the left part sandwiches over it to trap the pins in the link before this one. If you don't get cement on the link the tracks are workable.

I meant M3 Lee/Grant in reverse since it had a 37mm gun in the turret and the 75mm in the hull. The Type 5 has a 75mm in the turret and a 37mm in the hull. Why you'd want a back-up 37mm is beyond me, one guy on the internet thought it might be for use on soft targets. Still I'd think using the room to store more 75mm ammo would make more sense.

Hectic weekend but the 75mm gun is done, waiting for the wash on it to dry before I try to post any photos.
