Italiearie figures?!?!?!?!
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, March 19, 2004 11:31 PM
I bought the italiearie figures for the artillery pieces and I thought by the pics on the box that i was getting something great BUT I OPENED IT UP AND THIS IS PREHAPS TEH WORST KIT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! the faces are not detailed, and have no eyes or lips and the nose is a lump. the uniforms are ok but the head is fat and out of proportion, the limbs are way to long and so on and so forth, did i jsut get a horible kit or did the manufactuers do something on accident to this or both or did it melt out of proportion, cause i was locked in the car for a good two hours before i got back and drove home. I swear i hate Arizona weather, I long to live back in colorado... where it actually has more than one season. lol for real. thanks for the feed back. later

How hot was it in the car? I doubt it would have been hot enough to melt the figures. From what I have heard, Italeri is either hit or miss. I don't know for sure.

I have "hit" so far with Italeri; natural poses reasonable detail. Some Italeri stuff is re-issued Esci stuff I think. Don't know wether this is relevant though. I feel your pain though. It has happened to me with Tamiya of all companies.

Some of the old Italeri figure kits are ..... well .... crap.
Very poorly detailed and out of proportion. You may have picked up one of these kits.

The best figure kits, IMO, in plastic are those from DML and they do have quite a few of them.

Jordan,

It was the German Army Infantry. Four figures, all crap. They are still a current item for them, too, god knows why. I think they still sell US and Japan ones of similar "quality", yet have put some real decent sets out of production! Other than that, I have been more than happy with all Tamiya figures

If it's the 6 figure set with the guy at the radio, the molding is well over 25 years old. Let's face it, you get what you pay for in figures. With this set, you're paying a bit more than a dollar a piece and a good Nemrod resin figure goes for about $12. The DML figure sets cost about$1.75 a figure and you get modern castings. Good single metal figures start at about $20.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Nearly all companies have their skeletons in the closet. I try and ask around before buying figure sets to avoid the real dogs. Still remeber how dark I was after getting Tamiya's German Army Infantry in the post.

You could use them for practicing altering poses or painting techniques. Sort of like crash test dummies really.

Just my 2 cents Guy,

Leaving kits in a 120F car is asking for trouble (Ask me how I know). Particularly if the sun can shine directly on the box.

But.....There are some really BAD figures out there. Italeri and Tamiya both have some scary skeletons in their closets. Beware.
Sounds to me like you just found one of the bad ones.

At least the DML figures are all recent moldings.

The vast majority of Italeri figures are, indeed, crap, but they can be a cheap way of getting accessories. The 'German Rest Camp' set is good in this respect, though the figures are best used for .22 target practice!

Agreed with the above:

1. Most Italeri figures suck.
2. Generally you get what you pay for

DML is great if you want to spend lots of time assembling.... I am slowly weening myself towards hornet & warriors resin and metal figures.

However, one thing often overlooked would be to simply "frankenstein" the figures by cutting off their heads and replacing them with a hornet (or similar brand) head set.

well, since you are back in the cold war, and Kruschev is coming to get you, why not go to a disco or something-listen to "Disco Duck" and "Rasputin"??? Pick up some old Tamiya kits, and some more Italeri, and a few easternexpress-the bad ones, and you are set !

Gee, a lot of bad vibes towards Italeri figures! I have the German rest Area set (ex Esci) and I don't like it much, (oversize all the same faces, bad accesories) but I also have their Afrika Corps which is good. (Really good poses, good faces better accesories) they don't stack up to resin, but if you are doing a heavily populated dio, it makes good finacial sense. I am also less scared to alter poses of injection moulded figures, as if I wreck them it isn't the end of the world. Altering figures can be really good as people don't think along the lines of Tamiya vehicle/ Dragon figure set when they look at your dios.

Sorry, that was more like five cents!
