how many of us are deployed?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 21, 2004 1:47 AM
i was just curious to see how many of us are deployed to combat operations
on the camps and fobs ( forward operating base ) or even the op's ( observation posts )?

i'm in sunny iraq , the sunnis triangle somewhere ( can't really say where ).
but i'm sure it's the bung hole of the world, it just has to be?

Right now, I'm hanging out in the armpit of America. Jacksonville, North Carolina Home of Camp Lejeune and New River Air Station. I was in Iraq a year ago, and I got back home in July. I only spent about 4 months in Iraq, but I was certainly ready to get back. I spent the early weeks of the war in Jalibah, which is an airbase in southern Iraq. I spent a few days at "Yankee Station" which was helo FARP (Forward Air Replenishment Point) just southwest of Baghdad. I was in Al Kut for a couple of weeks after the "End of Hostilities" (Bush's words, not my own). We had the chance to have some fun in Al Kut. We had a Gunny who was buying livestock so we could Barbeque. I'm a Marine Corps Helo mechanic. You may agree that the best way to see Iraq is 50 feet at 150 knots.

Be safe, I hope you get home soon.

I got back form Bosnia about a year ago, we were over their for 7 months watching the store while active duty deployed to the sand box. I’m sure we will be getting out turn in the box soon enough.

Good luck guys, keep your head down and

Was in in Afganistan... Sorry to say that I missed out on that whole Iraq thing that everyone keeps talking about... LOL... Old soldiers sense of humor... Hate to say it being home is the BOMB!!! The beach here is quite nice compared to the one I was in on the other side of the pond...Wink [;)] Keep your head down Redleg and watch out for the dead animals... They are starting to blow up... Take care man and remember to come home soon... My prayers are with you and your buddies...

To those who are back home, welcome back. To our most recent recipient of the coveted brown ID card (retiree and dependent ID cards are still brown, aren't they?) 18B (c'mon bro, as old "Hoowah" Hagler used to say "There's no ex-11B's, you're marked for life" that's gotta go double for all you 18 series guys) congratulations, you made it. To those deployed and to those about to be deployed, keep your eyes open, wear your body armor even when you "don't need to", and come back home soon. Always be proud, because we are proud of you, and know that you are in the prayers of millions of Americans in every town and city, rich and poor, of all colors, and all faiths, every day.

I was there for Desert Storm on M60A1's. The best meal of my life was a hobo stew we made after 5 months of MRE's. You guys keep a round in the chamber and your kevlar on tight.

nah, the sinnis area may not be to large but it's no mystery that we're here, they've felt the steel rain for a bit now.

and i'd love to get to that bagdad model club thing , that'd be pretty cool, but i doubt they'd let a few of us get up that way?

anyway back to the fun it's 01:17 and time for this gun bunny to go to his hole in the wall of a rack.

Currently in Afghanistan, and the weather is here, wish you were beautiful!
Actually, when the dust isn't blowing, it ain't half bad looking at the mountains in the morning, landmines going off in the background...
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

LemonJello: Don't forget the occasional 7.62x39 zipping by your head and the camel spiders jumping into your lap and the cobras just looking for a warm place to sleep at night (preferably at your feet or on your chest while in your sleeping bagTongue [:P]) Personally if I didn't have a family I would still be there... I loved the country and the people...

No cobras (yet) but it is starting to warm up here. It really is a beautiful country, just it's been so messed up by the Sovs...its no wonder the local people don't really trust strangers/foreigners.
