Tamiya's 1/16 rc Tiger 1
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 27, 2004 12:26 AM
I know that tamiya's had their 1/16 rc line out for a while but I just had a question for the people who have bought and completed it. I am thinking about getting Tamiya's 1/16 rc Tiger 1 full option kit and I just wanted to know if it was fun to build, details of the build, hopefully some pics and maybe a recomendation if I should get it or not. I know it costs a lot, so it's more a dream than a reality, but I just want to get the inside scoop on what it feels like to have one of these things.
Thanks.

I joined this site a couple of weeks ago so Im not in the group build, but I finished my tiger a year ago.
Its the most fun I have had. it is a great challenge to build, it is not enough to be a good model builder you also need some technical skills. When you open the box you won't believe your eyes. There are so many parts. First I read the instruction booklet 2 times, then I made a detailed "batle" plan, and then I started building. The only thing I added was metal tracks, but I am looking at the suspension from www.backyardarmor.com
and the reduction gears from www.customrcmodels.com.
The group build isn't finished, go and have a look at it, those people have some great tips and tricks, its 56 pages so there is enough to read,
I like this model so much that I am thinking about getting one more. All I can say is go ahead buy it, its worth every penny. Big Smile [:D]Yeah!! [yeah]

Go to Erock68's Web pages. It's like a how to book, and it'll really get you wanting to run out and get one immediately!
I couldn't afford the Tiger, but I got the M4 for $411 delivered to my home. After that the manager offered me the M26 or King Tiger for $519 delivered and I almost spat up. He said he would extend the deal when I asked about getting a group going. I recently looked at the website and the prices went back up, M4 was five and change and the others around six. His earlier prices even beat the Hong Kong prices before shipping!
Believe me, I looked around. The store was www.hobbyworks.com and they are in MD.The manager's name is Mike C and see if you can get the deal. Mention me (Jeff from NY) he will probably remember, we were in email contact about this for a short while.

If you do get it, www.towerhobbies.com has the Attack 4 channel radio for $109, 7.2 batteries for $14. Good Luck.

Front a modeling point of view its a very nice representation. From an RC point of view some of those guys drop a small fortune on there tanks but its got everything you'd want.

Building it out of the box its not an overwhelming build. Everythings just big. Once you start to add other things like PE, etc... then it takes on a life of its own and can become a longer project.... at least in my case. But I'm building as much for the enjoyment of the hobby as I am building to see this thing motor across the yard.

If you've got the money then go for it. Visit the GB if you want to see pictures. Mail ordering would save you some money but its still an expensive proposition.

Hey check out this everyone!!!Cool [8D] As if I thought 1/16 was pretty big, how about 1/6 !!!!! Look at this link: http://www.armortek.co.uk/tigervideo.html -click on the video clip called Tiger 1-on manouvers and see how big the tank is behind the people in the backround! That would be awsome to have!

Just look at the size of the wheels!
