Best of the Best...
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 29, 2004 4:28 PM
Hey all, just wanted some imput from everyone here. The Tiger 1 is my favorite tank (can you tell?Tongue [:P]) and I havn't been able to buy another kit in the past year and I'm itching to get another. I'm going to buy another one soon and I was wondering what 1/35 tiger 1 kit should I buy? Ive built almost every Tamiya Tiger 1 except Otto Caris's kit and only one Academy. So it brings me to the question: what is the best of best in the tiger 1 field? Thanks all.Cool [8D]

Tamiya's Afrika Tiger I is the best one available.

Tamiya early or late are the two best that i have seen so far. The mid has a few problems. The academy and italeri kits are not as accurate, but the academy one can come with a full, somewhat inaccurate interior. Of course I have yet to find a kit that was perfectly accurate out of the box, but I am really getting to the point where I enjoy taking older kits and adding details. It makes the model quite personal. just my $0.02

I have only experienced the Tamiya Early but I'm impressed, I hope to eventually try them all. I'm with edog, the challenge is to overcome the kit's shortcomings.

The "Best of the Best" is Tamiya's 1/16 Tiger l (IMHO)

Both the Academy Early and Mid Tiger kits come with and without interiors. Both interior model kits have the same somewhat inaccurate interior. I understand it's a little more accurate for the early than the mid.
Some company out there is making accurate, asymetrical replacement turrets for the Tiger I's, but I can't remember who. Seems to me like they were in the $15 to $20 range.

I have built both the tamiya and academy tigers more than once. The best is Tamiya but the academy with interior is OK too. If you want an interior model but don't want to spend a fortune on extra bits or spend years scratch building, the academy model is the way to go. Its not 100% correct but keeping the price in mind its a good alternativ.
wipw....I remember those asymetrical turrets but I can't remember who made them either.....was it Kirin??? Im not sure.

QUOTE: Get a Kingtiger

-Yeah, I allready got one. It's Dragon's porcshe turret normandy one. I put the zim on the bottum hull and sprayed the hull in camo. I kinda got board of the tiger 2 (I know your freaking out Cap[:0]!), plus I so want to get another Tiger 1 cause I havn't done one in a while. I've built about seven Tiger 1's and it's time for another!Tongue [:P]
