Hey Redleg, compared to where you are, I'm in a garden spot. No rocket attacks here lately, though the IEDs are still nasty. So, from one of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, in sunny Afghanistan, good luck and godspeed on getting back home.

Ex18B, I just updated my email for the one I have out here. I'll be sending my address your way shortly. One thing the Corps has taught me, and that's to say "yes, please" when someone offers a box of goodies.

Life out here isn't too bad, a lot nicer than I had any reason to expect. I imagine the further out in the hills you go, the less nice it gets.

hey guys, it's been a while since i've been on last.
every time we get shelled or someone gets hurt they shut down the phones and net so they can notify the loved ones before gi rumor does it for them or just to make us mad i think?

i got to go out on QRF the other night it wasn't to bad, some dudes doing no good i bet on a stadium next to our FOB but when we got there there was no one there ( go figure )
my scope is hungry , very hungry!

but anyway, it's been cooler here for the last few days so it's been a bit refreshing with the mild weather and no bugs / mortars, gotta love that!

i'd like to send out a huge thanks for all the support, it sucks here but encouragement from the home front is always good!
besides you guys hear the news before we do, cnn huh, what the?
we should give them weapons and send them on patrol to get the bad guys they always seam to know where and when to be?

well gotta get rolling, alive and well in iraq , cept a chipped tooth?

Redleg, from one in "the other sandbox", stay safe and keep a round in the chamber. You guys have the tougher mission from my perspective. Just don't let the stuff that you see on CNN or Fox get to you, you know how reporters can talk about something that they have no clue about for hours...beides, the way the rotations are working out, I expect my Regiment to get the call for OIF IV or V after I get out of Afghanistan. Tell your boys over there that they're doing a heck of a job!

Hey Jesse,

Just finished our phase one AT, Chiefed the whole time, all rounds in time and on target, no injuries... except to the targets, life is good! Anyhoo, a stupid question here, but should I pack my CVCU's (coveralls) if (when??) we come over?
(No, no word of any kind yet, just plannin' ahead!)

no to the cvcs the dcu's are enough, but bring some greens with ya, the dcu's fall apart and you can use the greens for night ops if you guys get tasked out for qrf or ground pounders like we do sometimes

as far as rounds we shoot a lot of illum and rap, get ready!

as far as extra goodies, get a british plug adapter, a few of those black plastic boxes at the px, no need for checks, just a check card you can get casual pay up to 350 a month i think ) , bug spray, dvd's a personal dvd player, small tv, extra scope for your rifle,
and what ever else you might want, o yeah you'll be getting lots of cool new issue items in kuwate too! fleece jacket pants, 2 pairs of new airforce boots, silk draswers , and a whole slew of fun new items to trash ( ehhehehehe)

Jesse,

Great to hear from you. Illum, eh? Well, I'll have to pass that one on. During the initial war, the word came down that Illum was no longer being shot (only 4 missions total) due to what they did to night vision goggles (causes them to bleech out...happened when I was driving an M1 on the range and the unit I'm with now was hangin' four at a time.. argh! night scope go bye-bye). RAP... woo hoo!

I'll leave my CVCU's at home... sob, and bring a pair or two of summer (?) greens. LIke I said, nothing in the works yet, just plannin'. I'm sure our turn will come sooner or later.

Hang in there!

Ron

I'm useing the aimpoint 68 but a few aftermarket mounts and an aftermarket rail my lil' bro sent me ( i think he got it from galls.com?) also i would recomend getting a better balistic helmet, the issue ones kill your neck but if you get a new one with IIIA protection you'll love life with it, mine is so light even compared to the new ones the army issues, gotta love that! also the new suspension system in it make it twice as nice with the 4 point straps and front and back pads. down side it's all black with my DCU cover over it.

also if you don't like the IBA ( new flak vests ) you can order a better lighter one from galls or somewhere else , but it would be good if it was molle gear capable?
and takes paltes.

i still haven't found that mp 44 the german WWII one, but i will!

another pointer for here is get a lot of cotton socks , burn the wool ones, they suck, and the silk undies they give ya, ya need more, they rock in the heat!

and if someone can weld, he'll be the golden boy for a while, we have so many creations of welded add ons to our trucks it's rediculous, hmmwv's with metal boxes and cut outs for SAWs and 240's 21/2 ton bumpers on hmmwv's metal panels welded on the sides, it looks like a mad max beyond iraq thing or something?

but two days in a row for the computer, this is a good roll, ( hopefully this doesn't jinx it )
take care all!

Hey Jesse, good to hear from you some more. Are they putting you in for a Purple Heart for your chipped tooth?? Wink [;)]

Keep up the good work and stay sharp over there. I've got a friend in Bagdad right now too and it's not pretty I know.

Again, let us know if you need anything.

Eric

On Alert Again, (sing it to 'On the Road Again')... I'm so glad to be on Alert again... goin' places that I've never been... I'm so glad to be on alert again!

We'll see if we do something this time! Maybe, maybe not. Who knows!

Where do I get one of those new helmets!? I love having my own headgear. I'll try my 'sources'.

Regards,

Ron

That's right! Haven't you guys heard the news over there? The Iraqis just elected Ray Romano as their president and he's on his way over now in Air Force Wahid! And he's got reruns from his previous seasons tucked under his arm! That'll bring them around!

I'm telling you, that CNN gives you the up-to-the-minute ....

Keep your eyes out for that guy Sheik Yerbooti. Here's a deal -- send me the MP44 and I'll FedX over a Hawaiian Tropics girl in exchange (but she's gonna be Hawaiian Tropics 1944 -- what's fair is fair).

Hang in there -- we're looking forward to you joining some of the thousands of group builds when you get back ....

See if you can get us any pics posted. Any of your buddys have digitals with them? Would be nice to have some good reference pics.

Stay sharp bro,

Eric
