Tamiya M41- Walker Bulldog
Posted by TigerII on Sunday, August 30, 2020 12:46 AM

My daughter gifted me this kit. It was an easy build which I enjoyed putting together. I used the vinyl tracks but I added an Akusa Models .50cal MG and clear plastic to the driver's vision blocks. The tank commander is in the process of being painted. The first 3 pics are of a clean tank then the last 4 have the weathering with oils, pastels and highlighting.

Nice work on this oldie. It’s such a fun kit. What OD did you use on it?

Well done. It looks amazing. I have a hard bound book on this tank and they all pretty much looked alike in the pics. The only ones that have any wear and tear are the ones that are static displays and ravaged by the weather. Nice work.

Hey stik I used Tamiya paints OD. When I weathered the tank I drybrushed the tank to bring out the metal features.

Looks good, I wonder if everyone should go out and build the Bulldog and post photos of their kit.

That would make for a good GB on here. The Tamiya M41 Bulldog Group Build.

I noticed a Tamiya M41 thing going on here, and think it would be nice if anyone else who has one in the stash builds it.

I have been working on older Tamiya armor kits as of late to get back to enjoying just building models.

I did one back in the early 90’s, but would not mind building another. They are dirt cheap at Hobby Lobby.

Exactly...

$17.99 base price, minus 40% ($7.19) by coupon... not a bad deal...

Correct, a decent model kit for under $10 that is simple to build.

Thanks GreySnake and everyone else for their comments. I finally got around to doing the TC for this M41. Tamiya's early figures were not always the best, but I did the best I could.

You did a great job on this tank, the vision blocks and .50 caliber are perfect. I like the Master Sergeant with green goggles, that is cool touch. And he has Korean War brown combat boots - uniform correct. What is your technique for clean looking vision blocks? I always seem to get rough paint around my blocks and I use Vallejo masking, but I must be doing something wrong.

It was nice of your daughter to gift you something like this, something you really enjoy. My three girls are middle aged women 46, 48 and 55. They are so busy taking care of their own families... Well it gives their mother and I plenty of free time to enjoy retirement and lots of grandchildren to fuss over.

Super job - very nicely done!  I've always fancied this kit, but never quite picked it up.  But now, the next time I run across one I think it might be coming home with me.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

Hey Harold, thanks for the comments. To be perfectly honest I have no technique for painting the vision blocks except just a steady hand, and making sure the paint is well thinned (not a wash) so it runs to the edges with little help from the brush.

Also I'm in the same boat as you as my daughter is 38 with 3 boys and working in the medical field. She is now starting her nursing classes and although my wife and I enjoyed a little bit of my retirement; we're helping out as best as we can. Semper Fi, brother.
