ALLRIGHT EVERYONE, TONS AND TONS OF PICS!!!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 15, 2004 12:24 AM
Allright, I've been making promises to post picks ("I gotta post pics sometime") and here they are. One is my national Hobbytown winner of last year. It's my Tiger 1 mid pro with zim and 3 crew. Another's my t-34, which got sent up to the nationals again last hobbytown contest. And the third is my Trumpeter 1/32 F-105g. All comments are welcomed and apreciated. I'm not that good at figures, but I'm getting there.

This is my workbench with my models (Notice the new Iwata hp-cs!Big Smile [:D])

Here's the real 131 I modeled it after...

Heres the tiger front and center...

Backside of a tiger...

Close up of the zimmerit...

The commander...

t-34 diorama...

Close-up of front...

The Russian tank riders...

Hand-painted (because of ripped decalsDisapprove [V]) tiger teeth near gun bay-out of the box kit.
Thanks everyone for looking. Any comments are well aprieciated!Cool [8D]

Great stuff! I don't recognize that thing with the shark's mouth, it only has three roadwheels. Is it some kind of towed weapon?Wink [;)]

Good looking builds! I'm impressed with your zimmerit work; and the articulated bogies on the T-34 look really nice. Why is there a big gouge in the lower gun barrel on the F105? In addition, the barrels look a little warped; could be camera distortion... There also appears to be a significant gap in the upper and lower turret halves on the T-34 in the next to last pic.

Keep buildin' 'em!!

Nice, very very nice.
I'm curious, how did you finish the tracks on the tiger and the t-34, and what did you use to paint the german figs?

Yeah, I'm not exactly a Soviet Armor fan, so I didn't know if the gap was part of the design or if it would make me look like I didn't know how to seem something up. The two little rectangles near the manlet were supposed to be there, so I thought the turret seem was supposed to be there too. Should of done my homework...Angry [:(!](I always do, except for this quick little build) The jugdes (good or bad thing?) didn't seem to care or notice it, so I thought it was the right thing to leave on. I pointed it out to them and they said "what's the matter?" Then I just thought to leave it to them.

Yes, there is a gouge in the gun and no thats not a camera trick. I tried to put that barrel together the best I could, it was just so difficult. The individual barrels had to be glued together and it was all a mess trying to get them to properly go where they were supposed to go. It was a huge process of sanding off the glue and gluing together snaped barells (It was a mess!Angry [:(!]) The gash is from my knife, but I think I'll take it out and work on it.

The tiger treads were indy treads and I left them in the plastic molded color they came in, which was black. After the model was painted I made a mix of shaved artist pastels and water. After several layers of this on the tracks the treads looked all dusty. Then I used a brush and wiped off the dried pastels off the raised tread details. I highlighted the raised details with tam acrlyic gunmetal and a #2 hb pencil. I didn't seal up the pastels, so I have to be careful that I don't touch it, but thanks for the comment!
For the T-34 it was done without pastels. I put the indy treads on and painted the t-34 in dark green. the treads were all indy treads and they looked really awful. Then I airbrushed (yep, AB'ed) tam acrylic red-brown onto the treads-being extremely careful!-and let ti dry. I hand painted what I missed. Then I highlighted with gunmetal and a #2 hb pencil like the tiger.
For the german crewmen I painted them black with model master flat black. I painted the white parts of the uniform and drybrushed the highlighted parts with a dark grey. I did a wash on the driver, since he was wearing a camoflauged pattern coat.
Thanks everyone for the compliments and comments!!!Cool [8D]

Very close riff. It was actually Model master's acrylic dark tan or camoflauge tan-I'll see exactly what it is when I get home. Jut drybrushed it. Thanks!Cool [8D]

I think that wingy thingy is a B-1RD... (Nice Thud!)

The figures are great! Maybe use a little wash on the hands and faces to bring out the shapes and contours???

Love the Armor! I am still nervous about doing my first WWII model since I started learning the fine art of weathering. Hope I can do as fine a job as you have done here...

Super job. Zim is real nice, Ryan. But so it the paint, weathering, tracks, etc. Did you use PE fenders or modify the kit ones? Really great job. The T-34 looks great, too, I just don't know enough about Ruskie armor to say anything more specific.

I understand that 105's a bear. I'd really like to do a Wild Weasel, but probably never will. My hat's off to you!Bow [bow]

Thanks for letting us see them.

Out of the box my friend, well except for the PE grills and figures. Zimmerit was squadron putty too. And on trumpeter's f-105, I wouldn't do it again for a $1000!Disapprove [V] It just became a dog after a while. I've been working on it for 6 months allready and it is just big! I had to extend my AB booth just to fit it in and still it was hard to paint in there. I think there's a point when it gets too big and I think it crossed the line (Of course with armor big is better!Tongue [:P]Approve [^]Tongue [:P])

Right on the nail. The kit's DML's t-34/85 and you were right on the infantry. Some of them didn't fit, so I didn't put them onAngry [:(!], but It was a good build.

i recently ordered a set of those figures. i was planning to put them on a IS-2. do you think they would fit on a dml IS-2 Confused [%-)] i think the box art shows the infantry on a t-34.

Excellent Ryan. I really like the T-34 and the hand painted numbers and the Tiger's zim and weathering on the tracks.

The box art shows them on a t-34/85 and I was quite surprised when the figures didn't fit well on DML's own kit. Hmm, looks like most or about half of them will be able to fit on your JS-2. You might be able to save one guy by highly modifying him, but it's probably not worthit. But all in all it's a good kit, as always with DML's infantry kits. The rifle straps didn't come with it (I'm sure you knew), but I'd be careful with that one guy's bayoneted mossin rifle (very fragileShock [:O]). Thanks for the comments and hope it works out on your JS-2!Cool [8D]
