Finally started on this monster. I counted 489 parts, with 55 being pe ones. Work began with the very complex drive train. Each axle has 12 parts x 8 axles = 96 axle parts, and yes the suspension works and is steerable.
The chasis and 2 axles are done for tonight. Lots of parts
Too many models to build, not enough time in a lifetime!!
Don’t look like much but this is where it stands after several hours of dry fitting and assembling over 100 parts so far, being extra careful to keep glue away from the working internal parts.
Nice start, following this one.

There sure is a ton of detail packed into that chassis! I am gonna tag along on this build.

You're off to a great start with this! That 100 parts on what youve done so far? Crazy!

So cool! Love the AFV Club kits even with all the parts!
Remember building the ancient Italeri Puma kit back in the '80s. Haven't touched one of these since then.

I have that Puma kit. I bought back in the early 80s and finally started on it like 5 years ago scratch building most of the interior but very little info is out there on the Puma and the build stalled. I need to finish it.
That complex chassis is intriguing to say the least. Good job so far.
I hadn't heard of AFV Club. They certainly have some cool tank kits.

Hi Greg, thanks for dropping by. Yes AFV has some pretty neat armor subjects and are very well detailed. They have been around for several years.
They certainly produce the best 35th Sd.Kfz 251 on the market, IMHO. I am looking forward to trying a couple of their other subjects this year. In fact, all 3 armour builds i have planned for this year are AFV Club.
A short update about my 8 wheeler. Got most of the suspension done, added another 34 parts and the floor and sides are next.
Thats a well detaile chassis. Nice work.
Bish Thats a well detaile chassis. Nice work.
Thanks Bish. Was looking at the rims and they are like 3-4 parts each. They threw out simplicity with this one. I have the Italieri 6 wheeler and Dragon 8 wheeler in the stash. Have to compare to see if they have less parts
Help an old fart out--were the 263 double-ended, driver fore and aft, like previous German recon cars?
I'm trying to remember if it was the front four wheels that steered, or just first and last?
I have this nagging memory that the 6 rad cars ditched the fore-and-aft arrangement, but I'm not certain.

The 8 rad could be steered front for normal turns and both front and aft for tight turns. This AFV model has a complete interior and both steering positions will be seen in the coming build steps.
The 6 rad steered from the front only. I’m planning to show mine with both front and rear tires traversed in a small vignette setting. I think this shows off the complexity of the machines’s drive train.

I am not sure AFV Club are known for simplicity. The 251 kirts of these i have built so far i found compare very closely in detail to the Dragon kits, though they don't have the extra parts such as fuel tank and other items under the floor and i found the AFV club kits have a better bit.
Was tied up with other builds and house things but finally continued with this puzzle.
I started assembly on the body which looks simple but it’s not. Too many angles that need to be correct to match the top parts but it was finally done and attached to the chassis.
The 8 wheels are next, having 6 parts each x 8, total of 48 parts to complete all
I’m using small plastic tubs labeled with each sub assembly to keep things Four more to go.
Looks good! And good idea with the bins. I'd have to assemble each suspension arm one at a time since there's no way I'd not end up mixing them up.
And yeah, every AFV Club kit I've built has been fairly complex. But they do tend to have very clear instructions unlike some brands I've build.
Coming on nicely PJ.
Really impressive project, to tackle all those suspension parts. Sounds like a fun challenge -- as long as there's not too much flash/pin/sprue marks to clean up on each bit!

Thanks. Actually the parts are super clean, just too many of them for one step.
Thanks Bish and Gamera
The remaining wheel assemblies were completed and the side skirts were added. One side required clamping for proper alignment.
Great start. I have always liked these but have only built one. I will follow progres.
