That is a tough question. The best answer I can give is what was the factory standard at the time of manufacture of vehicle. Pre 1943 most equipment came from factory in a grey scheme, then if required camo was applied in the field by crews by more ways to quickly discribe.

Post 1943 equioment left factory with dark yellow over red oxide primer again field applied camo.

You can also google cybermodeler and they have tabulated several color pallets with cross references for different manufacturers ie Tamiya, Vallejo, Ammo by Mig...

Hope this helps and perhaps provides more input from the wide base of knowledge here on the forums.

If i understand it right the instructions say Dark Yellow. There is no RAL number for this. There was a range of dark yellows and i am sure someone can give you an over complicated answer as to which is the correct colour for any given month. But Tamiya XF-60 will do the job well unless you have a certain paint range in mind.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Starting February 1943 the base coat of all NEW production vehicles was Dunkelgelb Nach Muster. It DID NOT have a RAL number as one had not been assigned.

This particular colour (Dark Yellow After Pattern) was brighter than some people realise today although Vallejo have nailed it in their Model Air range (71.025) It is marked as RAL 7028.

The colour changed in August 1943 after complaints from front line forces over the colour and the fact that it had no camouflage enhancement and the new replacement colour became RAL 7028.

There were a further changes in late 1944 and 1945.

It very much depends on your time frame but for a vehicle after August 1943 (end of operation Citadel) then MRP paints number 215 is the correct base colour.

You also need to google for photos taken in Norway in that period and see if there were STUGs in two or three tone camo from that battalion. (add RAL 8017 (brown) and RAL6003 (green))

Thank you all for your replies. It is amazing on the information that all of you have when it comes to subjects on this forum.
I think I'm gonna go with the 7028.
