MAD TIGER DAY Proposal
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, April 22, 2004 12:12 PM
An idea came out of Armormaster's post on mental illness...Here's a proposal for the First Annual Mad Tiger Day:

One day only....
I propose August 8th, the 60th anniversary of Micheal Wittmann's demise, a Sunday this year.

One kit for all, the same, 1/72...
I think it would be pretty cool to see how a diverse group would build the same kit under a tight or extreme schedule. A kit easily available on all continents and relatively inexpensive Tiger, say Revell AG. Or maybe it would be possble to get a model company to sponser this? supply the kits. it might be worth a shot.

Everything from breaking the seal to the final touch must be done, and submitted however it ends up at the end of the day.

Might be tough to set up but it also might be a whole lotta fun!

Need comments.
The more interest would mean the more likelihood of a sponser/donator. It could be billed as a Four Continent Tiger Build. Or an International Dateline 24 hour something or other. Maybe even FSM would devote an article to it.

Sounds like fun to me. If I can find the right kit. Recently, there has been a drought of 1/72 Revell Tigers. I recently picked up an Atak zimmerit set for one, but can't find a kit to put it on!! Angry [:(!]

Im in if I can get a new compressor.....but then again you already knew that ausf.
I think I can get my hands on a Hasegawa 1/72 Tiger.
Im ready lets do it.
Maybe we should contact Guiness book of world records, alot of people around the world building the same model in one day must be some kind of record. Big Smile [:D]

Chris:
doesn't seem like it l8ly, does it ?
call it temporary insanity...it is 4 a MAD TIGER DAY, after all ! Wink [;)]
i think i have a Bergetiger kit i'd like 2 try 4 this build, so even OOB would b an interesting model IMO.
unless the build rules specify a particular kit...
then i'll b doing either a hasegawa kit or revell as decided by our hosts.
now the 1/35 guys can prove 2 themselves that they can do it in small scale, too.
this is such a great idea !

When I meant to the same kit, I mean the exact kit. Would if I could get Revell or Dragon or Hasegawa to up some freebies, say 20 or 30 of the same. That would be a blast to see all the differrent paint schemes or modifications that could be cooked up in one day.
Tamiya seems like the most likely company to agree to this type of promotion but they don't make 1/72 armor, do they?

Did you try squadron? I got a few different ones from them a short while ago and they always seem to have a good stock.

No they don't, and thats a shame.
I agree, it should be the same kit for everyone. If we can get freebies then that would be great, there is only one problem.......shipping.

These things are pretty small. I just got a BMW R75 off of Ebay that's the same size and weight box. The first class post across the US was $1.62. There are cheaper alternatives but I don't know how that compares to airmail to Western Europe, Japan or Austrailia.

Sounds like it could be a fun...and definitely unique build. It's a little far out to plan for sure, but count me in as well.

Maybe we could make a GB patch of this "Build a Tiger in a day" thing and whatever company sponsers it would have their logo in the back or at least incorperate it in the GB patch design, and that's if we even get sponserment. I think we just need to do this by ourselves, but we need to try Revell and Hasegawa sometime...

Maybe you are right Chris, but we have to give it a shot.
And if we can't get freebies, well 1/72 kits aren't that expensive I guess we can all afford one for this build wich I think will be great fun.

I'll send off some letters, couldn't hurt right?
Besides that or even just for the sake of simplicity:
We could still just all build a 1/72 Tiger the same day, whatever is easiest to get in your country. Everybody makes one, except Tamiya, and they are inexpensive. Plus it's OOB so there wouldn't be that temptation to overspend on PE.
We could probably get FSM interested, maybe even have them judge the final builds?

It's an interesting idea, and it would definitely be cool to see. At the last show I went to, they had a display showcasing what the club that was hosting it built in 12 hours. Some pretty neat stuff came out. if it were a day, definitely 1/72 is the way to go

I will have to pass on this build , for one reason only ! A 1/72 tiger would look ridiculous in my display of big (1/35) machines , besides I already have my tribute to michael (my only Tiger1 btw ). but have fun with the build , it sounds like a real challenge !Big Smile [:D]

Sounds like a fun idea, I should be able to join up.

Hasagawa kits are easier to find up than Revell up here, so that would be my preference, but I'll try to work with whatever the group decides.

Sounds cool but I have already fixed my mind on doing only 1/35 armor. So I pass on this one.
