I have made a small change/update to the M1062 trailer. When I was building it, I found that most had Dayton 5-spoke wheels on them. These are a heavy-duty wheel used on commercial trucks/trailers.

At the time, I couldn’t find any in 1/35 on the aftermarket. The Trumpeter M915 w/M872 trailer has them on the trailer though. I was able to get a set from a fellow modeler (thanks Tim). So I swapped out the Dayton wheels/tires for the 5-hole military wheels w/commercial tires I had on it. They were an easy swap and look great in my opinion.

I will use the other wheels/tires to convert the M872 trailer into the shorter, two axle M871 30 foot trailer, which uses the 5-hole style wheel.

I have completed the M1062 Bulk Fuel Trailer.

I painted it with a spray can of Krylon Ivory paint.  I gave it a few washes of brown and sand acrylic paints, then drybrushed with a sandy color.  I also added some spilled fuel on top using Tamiya Smoke paint.

The decals match the M1088A1 truck it is mated to; 13th Theater Support Command, 610 Quartermaster Bn, 418 Transportation Company.  It is not based on any specific trailer, but representative of actual ones used in Iraq.  The "Flammable..." decals are from a German decal set from TL Modellbau that includes the "Flammable No Smoking..." markings in white, as well as black.  I used the white ones on an M49A2 a few years ago.  The "Flammable 3" placards came from a set by Star Decals.

I really like how the trailer came out. It shows that with a little elbow grease and TLC, you can turn a mediocre snap-tite kit into a real gem, in my opinion anyways.

Thanks gents.  It is turning out nicely.  It is on hold for a while though so I can finish up a couple items for the ModelPalooza show in Orlando this weekend.

CapnMac - the wheels look cast.  They had a casting block I removed from each.

The details on the lettering is exquisite. You can read every bit. The tread is very nice too.

Wow.  Are thos cast, or printed?  Either way, that's incredible.

The DOT flipper placards are incredible, too.

I received the Panzer Art civilian tires today. They look great. There was a slight issue with them though. All 8 rear tires and the spare had lug nuts. Only the outer 4 should have them and the inner 4 should be smooth. With the lug nuts on the inner 4, the tires stick out too far. It was an easy fix though. I sliced the lug nuts off the inner 4 tires and the spare, then I drilled the holes for them in the spare. They are also very tight on the AFV Club brake drums, too tight. I swapped them out for a set of Hobby Fan 5ton hub/brake drums I had, which are a smaller diameter. They fit them perfectly.

The top 4 are the inners that I modified and the spare is on the left.

They look great on the trailer. Fit is perfect too; they are the same size as the kit tires.

I finished up the trailer rear with the two wires that go up the sides to the lights and forward.

I added the “FLAMMABLE” placard holders on all four sides as well.

Next up is paint and the M1088 FMTV Tractor to pull it.

Thanks Gamera.  I'm hoping to get the new wheels by the end of the week, provided that this little hurricane heading our way doesn't mess things up too bad.Confused

This project is on a slight hold. I have decided, after looking at lots of reference pics that the M1062 should have road tires, not the military uni-directional tread tires like a standard 5ton.

To this end, I have ordered the Panzer Art U.S. Royal Commercial Road Wheels M54 Series Truck.

Once they come in, we’ll see how they look on it.

She's coming along well Gino, nice work! Yes

We have a local micro-brewery that brings us the liquid waste from the hops they use to make the beer. They use a tanker trailer much like that one. A year or two ago they brought it in with the side all bashed it. I asked the truck driver if they'd been in an accident and he told me they'd parked the thing on some mashy ground and then filled it up normally. One morning they came in and the trailer was lying on it's side - seems one of the front supports had sunk into the wet ground and the top-heavy trailer had flipped over. Seems like it wasn't the most together group working there at the micro-brewery...

And yeah the stuff smells like you can imagine- like you'd poured beer all over a car interior, let it sit in the hot sun for about a week and then popped the car door. YEACHHH!!!!

Neat project, Gino!

There's definitely not enough love for the softskins.

I can't wait to see some paint on it.

Thanks gents.  It has been fun so far.  It is a shame that loggie vehicles don't get more attention.  They can be fun to build.

Pawel
So what colour is it going to be and do you have a tractor for it? How much did you have to cut out, to make it the correct length?

Thanks Pawel. Some answers.  I'm not sure on the color yet; either NATO camo or sand.  I do not have it built yet, but it will be pulled by an M1088 FMTV Tractor.

I had to cut out 65mm to shorten it.

That's going to be cool.

Not needing delivery piping for four tank compartments helps a lot on the scratch building.

My drive to the occive goes past three tank farms, so I see a lot of road tankers, and, it's funny, Freuhauf are the least common (Heil and Cooper, typically).

I have this memory that somebody had a set of aftermarket DOT placards which would help replicate the "flip style" ones on both of the auction examples.

This build is also proof positve we are not forced to wait out on obscure, and hideously expensive, resin kits of things we ought have more of in "soft skin."

Perhaps if the new Replenishment Brigades got more attention, people might appreciate logistics more.
