I bought a few different Tigers in 1/72 a short while back, just to round out an order for free shipping and to compare different kits. I won't get too detailed as not to offend potential sponsors, but Airfix was one that I had to hold at arms length like bad cheese. I couldn't exorcise it from my table fast enough. My four year old found it and had a field day.

Ha! Too true.

I am yet too get a dud bit of advice here yet, so when the time comes I will let the moths out of the wallet and buy a better one. Unless of course I am sponsored! Would that make us all professionals?

Can't participate on Aug 8th. Will be returning home from the Nats in Phoenix that day. don't think the airport or airline would appreciate me with the glue and paint let alone an X-acto "honest officer, it is for a 1 day model build with my buddies on the FineScale Forum. Really, you can log into the site and see for yourself."
I think 24 hours is too long, especially for a 72nd scale tank. My old club in Great Falls, MT did a couple of quick build contests years ago. We supplied the kit (they were all different), glue, paint (1 can spray paint was all you needed), knife and 90 minutes, go. I did the old Revell 1/32 Huey cobra one year and a 1/8 motorcycle the next. You have never seen anything as much fun as 10-15 adults and kids trying to get their kit together and painted in that short of time. Oh yeah, no super glue allowed.

I really thought that it would be fun to build my first tank with you guys in 24 hours (if you'd have a flyboy over here), but I'll be in Phoenix hanging out with Phil and the rest until Tuesday!!! (It's part of my vacation time as well). Of all the Sundays to pick, you had to pick the Nats??!! LOL

If the date is problem we can always change it, can't we ausf??
If we can get a sponsorship gooing that would be great.
But even if we can't I'll buy the kit and do it anyway. I have called a dealer here in Denmark and he had a few of the Hasegawa tigers in 1/72nd scale, so I can get a kit......no problem.

The date was completely arbitrary, the date of Wittmann's death, and it happened to be a Sunday and a good distance off.
I have no problem changing it either way, sooner or later if it means more can join. It would also make a sponsorship a little easier too.
When I get some answers from companies we can bounce the date around if you like.

Chris, I was only kidding, I have no plan to contact Airfix. I'd rather try to make one out of Jello.Shock [:O]
Phil, 24 hours was just meant to be the 'window'. Even with a five month warning, and a Sunday, I don't see myself getting the time I would like. There's going to be a lot of juggling. Because of the time differences, we couldn't get everyone online and give a starters whistle, although that would be cool. Based on most of our members pics, I expect to see some serious builds here with alot of detail and weathering. That's why I would love to get a quality kit in everyone's hands.

ausf! the 24 hours may only be a " window " to you, but I intend to keep my build within that timeframe. I will start my build at 00.01 on that date and stop 24 hours latter.
There is no way we can control when people start, if they want to " cheat " I don't care. I see it as a chalenge to build a kit within 24 hours and do as much finishing and weathering as possible. Im not in this to make a great looking model, im in this because I think it will be fun, and Im not seeing this a competition.

I agree with Monrad, as I plan on having fun with this build, but starting strictly at 00:01 after I take my pic with the box unopened of course!! I appreciate you taking the date change into consideration. I just recently (meaning 2 weeks ago!!) got my little brother into modeling, and he's a bit overwhelmed by all of the massive detailing, and length of projects. He's not an FSM member (he doesn't own a computer), but I'd like to get him in on the build as well to show him that there is a lighter side of modeling as well. I plan on doing as much detailing as possible of course......but 24 hours??!! LOL It will be fun to see what everyone comes up with!!!

I meant 'window' as the time to complete, absolutely. I just meant you don't have to spend the 24 hours building as in marathon unless you want to....one hour, six, ten or whatever as long as it begins and ends at midnight on the dates decided. If it's midnight and the paint's still wet with fingerprints then that's your camo.

Then we agree........as I thought we would.
If the is not going to be on August 8th, then I think it should be later.

I would have to see the NYG schedule first...six hours at the stadium would kill my build time.

Sounds like fun... I'll do it, unless I have to work that day.

I think time zones won't be that important. We could post in here to let everyone know when to start. What I mean is, maybe we could post the date of the build and the country along with the time you should start to build. So say here in the States we should start at 8 AM (and change it depending on the time zones in the states) and, to keep everyone on the same track, lets say people in Australia would start at 7PM (sorry, I don't know the hour difference from here to AustraliaDunce [D)]) but thats the princible. Someone would have to do some serious work and calculations, but we could arrange it where Everyone in any country will be starting this at the same time, no matter what time it is in their country.

Mourningstar......we do know that the time difference is an issue.
But I don't see it as a problem though. The key issue is the 24 hours, sure I will start my build 7 hours before you guys in the US, but I still only have 24 hours.

I see you are a bit faster than me ArmorMaster.
Well we can do it your way, that would be OK for me.
But why make it that difficult. On the day of the build, I will post here at 0001 hours local danish time- that would be 1701 hours FSM time, and tell everyone that I have started and then i just have 24 hours, its that simple.

I think we just stick to our local clocks, beginning at 12:01 and ending at 11:59 on the decided date. I'll have a website set up and entrants can submit when finished, whenever finished, in their respective window. After the last is submitted, Japan and Austrailia I suspect, I'll compile the page for results. Of course progress in a thread would be fun as well, but nobody should be put out be having to submit to another's time zone. that's why the 24 hours and why we couldn't have a Zulu start time. Someone would be stuck building through the night.
I never got used to NFL football when I lived in Hawaii, A 1 o'clock NY start was aired before breakfast there. I didn't have TV(happy times) and you'd have to go out to catch it. No bars open at that hour which is a good thing. You'd go out to brunch and it would be well into the late games.

I was also thinking about the posting the submissions on the website anonymously at first so either we, or forum members, or sponsors can vote. If you post pics in the thread during the build this wouldn't be possible. If we did it ourselves and you agree not to vote for your own it would be neat to see who's the favorite build. Not best, just favorite.

I'm diggin it ausf....it's definately better to let everyone do it by their Local time zone, as I would probably be stuck waking up at 3 or 4 in the morning to try and get started, and a grumpy modeler isn't always the best with the superglue!!! And I think that your Idea about the anonomous posting on a special website is a GREAT idea!!! I have to be honest and say that I doubt I'll be posting any "In Progress" pics, or even visiting this forum, as I'll have my hands full, if you know what I mean.....What about After Market parts.....well, maybe not parts....but dry transfers as opposed to decals, is that fair game? (don't look at me like that, I need all of the advantage I can get in order to get her done on time, and waiting for future, and decals to dry is not on my "fun" list!!!Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Big Smile [:D]
