Chop-Shop Shermie - Pics
Posted by Build22 on Friday, April 23, 2004 2:43 PM
Well, I've kinda departed from the norm on this one.

In the many travels through out the web, various armor galleries and coming across many Sherman pics, I couldn't help but notice the aerodynamic shape of the early M4A1.

And well, with all the car companies going "retro" with their new designs ...........I thought .......who knows .........maybe a new class of auto, the SAV - Suburban Assualt Vehicle.

So I thought what would it look like with a nice shiny coat of paint

- I may go to "Sherman Hell " for such blasphemy !

Nichimo M4A1 - Very hard plastic - not great detail pieces - was an old motorized model. Purchased on Free-bay for not alot

Scraped off all detail from hulland filled holes. Model had a hull texture over the whole surface - lot of sanding . Added head lights to cover machine gun port

Metallic undercoat

Exhaust pipes for some effect - true blue pearl paint

Air conditioning - optional

Where'd you get that nice shade of blue? Did you mix it?

heheheh, that's crazy! What you need to do is lower it, put on some rims, and paint some flames on to it Big Smile [:D]

LOL! Excellent! I'm surprised you didn't 'chop' the turret, like they do with roofs!

I remember a gold M5A1 Stuart on an old Batman episode back in the '60's... but this is MUCH better!

That is one sweet finish! Beautiful man! It's like an Austin Powers American Style variant.
I'm truly impressed.

Thanks for all the comments - this was definetly just for fun

MGM - it's actually "Boyds" - true blue Pearl - it is like a metal flake. Actually I thinned it a little with glossy clear to get some of the gold to show through. I also did a gloss coat over the whole thing

Zokissma - I was tempted to do more - maybe an other time

Ron - actually chopped the barrel a little bit - don't need that excess swinging through traffic

Dave T - the trick is too spray over the metallic w/ what some people call a candy color. It's somewhat transparent and gives more depth and metallic look to the paint. It's used as an auto finish

Moonrad, JimQ, and Ausf - I hear ya. We shall see but I hear rumors Sherm drives the same model around in Canada - except his is Olive Drab metalflake !

Wildwilliam - you may be right

Wow, Jim! I' am waaay impressed! You might have done it only for fun, but it really shows up your tallent for modifying. I could never have faired in those headlights as well as you did. They would have wound up looking like a couple of stuck on pieces. And I've tried "candy colors" before. I know how hard that can be with a triple layer of translucent paints. I really am impressed by your technical skills. As for the subject, I think it's a super idea, too. How long did it take you?

As for Robert, well, after all it is a Nichmo kit!! lol

Great job!

Or trick it out with the chrome rims that stay still even when their moving. And chrome-plated treads wouldn't be bad!

Could you dangle some tiny little fluffy dice from the barrel? Just for me?

Excellent idea and build! Enter it in a car division in a comp, I dare you!
