British WWII Tank Crew Beret Colour....?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, May 6, 2004 4:51 PM
Modelling a Honey at the moment with an excellent Warrior British Tanker to go along with it, and I'm painting the Tanker at the moment and looking at pictures of other British Tankers painted, I can't really tell if their Berets are Black or a Dark Blue. What colour were the British WWII Tankers Berets ?

Thanks,

Adam.

G'day, Folk's,

Armoured Crew have Black Beret's, unit shoulder flashs were yellow background red writing, changed in '84 to black [when the 'can't see me suit, was issued]. Dress uniforms had a yellow Lanyerd, under the right apaulette, to the right top breast pocket.
Service Corps had the Dark Blue beret, used mostly by transport drivers.

regards
Rob.

And don't forget the zipper across the top of the black beret. We infantry always referred to armour as zipperheads and a couple of them actually put zippers in their berets
