Tankfest, a day out at Bovington (Updated)
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 23, 2004 5:37 PM
It was a great trip today, i had to go on my own because no one likes Tanks in my family Sad [:(]
I set out at 5.30am and got back at 8.00pmSleepy [|)] seeing the Tiger 1 was worth it Big Smile [:D]
I took 410 photos and took 40mins of film with three cameras hanging around my neck (it was a juggling act)Clown [:o)]

saw the Challenger 2 with all its add ons in green/black camo Looks so coolBig Smile [:D]

Challenger 2

Royal marines flyiing the flagSmile [:)]

the one yove been waiting for

It was great to hear the Tiger, even if it was misfiring
On an other post someone said the engine came from the Tiger 2 in France, it wasn’t from the French Tiger, I was talking to a bloke from Abro and he said the French wouldn’t help at all, they wouldn’t even let them look at the cooling system on there Tiger 2. The engine was parts from the Jagdtiger, the Tiger 2 and a exhibit from bovington

Edited to make room on my web host (photos are now smaller)

I'm very jealous Jon. I spent many years in Europe, but never got to Bovington. Now it's my dream vacation. I'm sure the wife can find something to do in England if we can get over there. Thanks for sharing some of your pics!

Well I am jealous. Nothing but airshows around here. And it is obviously much better for getting great photos at a show like that.

Equally jealous. Was this a particular show, or does they do things like this on a regular basis during the summer? I will be in the UK during all of July '05, and would love to stop by and see some tanks!

Tell me more about this one. What is it? And is there a kit out of it somewhere?

Lemonjello there isnt a kit out of it yet, its brand new with the Royal Marines and 60% designed by them too, maybe accurate armour will bring a kit out?
its got arour protection and was used in Afghanistan (i think) i cant remember the name sorry

Buff they have little show all over the summer but there not as bis as there Tankfest, Bovington musium is in the middle of the army base and you drive past some of the test areas, and just down the road is where they take the Challengers for live firing, so you could park up and watch

wildwilliam I dont think ill ever make it to AberdeenCaptain [4:-)]

thanks for the replys

about the Tiger 2 in france, the man in charge of restoring the Tiger 1 wanted to have a look to see how the cooling system fitted up to the engine, so he went over to France to see if they could show him with there Tiger 2, they wouldnt even lift the hatch on itor sell any of there hundreds of spare parts. what a complete bunch of Censored [censored]

I'm still trying to get the "SS"'s sorted out on Sherman suspensions. Can someone tell me which one is on the Sherman in the picture? I think its HVSS, but that just a WAG. Thanks.

What is the deal with the french not letting him look at the engine compartment , could they not tell he wasn't some schmoe off the street ? Were they hiding some kind of military secret ?Wink [;)] Thats just ridiculous and yet another reason to dislike the french , ( and I am part french BTW , but the swede offsets it !) Anyhow they have done an excellent job on the restore , a little tuneup and she should be almost as good as new ! Very kool !Cool [8D]

Why are we trying so hard to make our tiger models more realistic when the real one looks like platic? He-he-he.
