                        Beautiful work as usual Robert, and an extremely quirky idea- only a Shermanfreak like you could build such an obscure thing and have it seem perfectly logical!

                        not too long ago, some New York 'Redbird' subway cars were stripped & also dropped into the ocean 4 the same purpose...
                        pretty cool way 2 recycle old metal, IMHO...

                        the mothballed sherman looks great !
                        now i know what 2 do w/ my airfix sherman kit (the one that donated it's hatch 2 my m32)
                        unless it ends up as part of my D-Day GB project as a damaged vehicle.

                        Wow I missed one of your post Rob. sorry ,must of been Clown [:o)]in. I do have the super sherman but I am gonna build it as is and AFV is more $$ than the kit so you are correct on that..guess I will go get another M-51.

                        No oceans involved, they were placed at various points around the world .... on dry land........ no oceans for these ones !!!!!

                        The sets I used here are DML's. The M4A3 came with them but it is an old kit and I don't think available at this time. The set used on the M4A2 came from DML's M-50 Isherman kit. As far as I know, it is still on the market.
                        You can also look for DML's M-51 Super Sherman kit or Academy's kit of the same and use the suspensions from them.
                        AFV Club has a HVSS suspension set and seperate track sets available, but it's probably cheaper to purchase one of the above kits and just use them.

                        I was thinkin the same as Dwight there Robert.The twins look good can ya tell me where yo got the HVSS from I cant seem to find a ny kits out that contain it. I did finaly come across a sherman with the rounded cast hull...up to 6 shermans now Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] and I got to tell ya thesherman in a can is pretty cool. Strange how they do that, so do you need a electric or manual canopener or is it the new pull tab style to open it...hahaha

                        Hiram - the reference to a "Sherman in a Can" is just my tongue-in-cheek way of describing this build. The way that the Sherman was encased in metal to seal it for future usage.
                        The tanks that were dropped in the ocean are ones used to create artificial reefs I believe. Not only Shermans were used for this. So, no, not the same thing. The Shermans were mothballed in Detroit for future usage. Many were used in Korea.
                        As soon as I run out of Sherman variants to build, I'll send you whatever is left over. Wink [;)]

                        Will - The picture on that site is either an M4A2 or and M4A3 with HVSS suspension. If it's an M4A3, then yes it was a late comer to the war. If it's an M4A2, it's in the wrong place. The Russians may have recieved some on lend lease, but the commonwealth troops didn't and the U.S. never used them there.

                        I've also got a question,
                        the Sherman in the Bulge exhibit on this page, http://www.rrmtf.org/firstdivision/main.htm is it a WW 2 sherman? I think it is pretty close to the twins your building
