It's not much, but it's done......
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 10:19 AM
After the roughly four months back from many years away from modeling, I find myself with a 1/35 Tiger I bogged down in weathering, a 1/16 M4 still waiting on the upper hull and now a 1/16 Tiger I laughing at me from beneath the bench. Also an ever growing stash, but not one completed model in about 25 years.
So this weekend I decided to just build one, small and simple. No super-detailing, no weathering, no figures, nada...just to relax and see what it feels like to finish.
About five hours over four days and I'm not doing anymore.

Thanks for bearing with me....

Looks pretty darn good to me! I love the way the seat and the saddle bag turned out. Very nice, leather look. How did you do that? Oh, and as mentioned above, what kit is it??

Thanks for the kind words,
It's Tamiya's 1/35 BMW r75. It comes with four figures and a MG but I'll save them for a later date....

I preshaded with Tam X-1, then Dunkelgelb and Chrome with no drying time in between. The rest is watercolors, even the tires, and a quick coat of Future.

The kit is smaller than a 1/72 tank, so I figured it would be a good warm up for MTD.

Nicely done ausf.
That was my intent with the Ketten. A quicky to show I could get through one with out the artists ocd kicking in. Shame it didn't happen..... maybe one day, one kit ....sigh

I like this little kit. I have one and found a detail kit for it. Built one 20 years ago and it was a fun build then, I'd like to do it again for nostalgia sake and do it with everyting I've learned to date.

Again. Really good job ausf. Don't worry about the other in-progress stuff. Its a hobby not a contract. Take your time and do it right rather than rush it and be sorry for it later.

I saw it on Ebay and couldn't resist (even though I found it cheaper at my not so LHS a week later). I didn't build this when I was younger but it brought me back to the Corgi toys I had. Anyone remember the Afrikakorps line they had?

Ausf, I can relate. I haven't finished one since the 80's until I decied to go small scale with a 1/76 Tiger I.

Worst case you'll end up with a collection of small modelsSmile [:)]

Great job on the motor bike!

Ausf,

I can relate (Mini Me).

Great little bike, but never say never. I wouldn't be surprised if you spent a day down the road weathering this little beauty.

Great job! I love the nice new look, ready for delivery to Tobruk! It feels good to finish, but I have to disagree with frosty. I think they're fun when built, especially when I'm looking over about 25 tanks in a row, ready to attack!

Hey, that looks good! Thanks for sharing the pics. The great big models are so cool, but the small models are really the meat and potatoes -- the magic of modeling is to make something small look like something much bigger!

Yeah after these monster 1/16s are done, I figure 2012 or so, I'm going 1/72 and that's it...Well, after I finish the 1/35 Panther, Kubel and Pzkpf III I have waiting. Cripes!

I just passed a BMW on the road a little while ago and realized I painted the emblem backwards. Wink [;)]

Wow, I have to get me one of those. I built the motorcycle as part of my Flak 36 Dio but that side car looks good with it.

Nice job. Now you can proudly say "scratch one!". He-he-he. Figuratively speaking that is.

Pretty nice build. I think I need to do about the same and just get a kit and do it in a few hours time, especially with my scheadule now a days.

Ausf,

What do you mean, not much

......that's a great kettenkrad w/goliath sidecar !

Oh, it's a motorcycle !

I think it looks great ! Nice job !

I tried to do that with an isu-152 - just rip through it and get it done. I 've just ordered my third book on russian armor - it's now going to have a few figures - and I'm looking for a different set of decals.

Way to rip through it !

Thanks everyone,
It was a lot of fun and very satisfying to finish something.
Beware if you build this one, you'll spend half the time cleaning up after the 32 year old mold.

Chris, I kind of missed most of the small AFV build, can I substitute this for my planned Kubel....Blush [:I]

Nice one Ausf. I was a bit anxious til I got something on the shelf too. I thought 'Here we go again, never finish anything."

Needs the Jones boys sitting on it though........

LOL !
u wargamer u ! Wink [;)]
i actually do like looking at my built-up models,
but between my sibs' eager little fingers & my own
klutzy ones, i'm afraid of the eventual trip 2 the floor
not 2 mention the fingerprints in the chalk weathering
(FSM meets CSI)
i still don't have 25 built-up tanks, but i know u have more than 10x that !
