What's Happening To Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 5:17 PM
A few months ago I rekindled my passion for modelling after 25 odd years (sound familiar?). I decided to concentrate on 1/48 aircraft and have been enjoying it greatly.

Last night I went to the LHS to look at all the shiny plastic and I came away not with an aircraft, but with a Tamiya 1/35 M2A2!!! Then, when I got home, I went out to my shed and found the big cardboard box that has not seen the light of day for 15 odd years and opened it.

There inside was my Tamiya Sherman, Churchill, Abrams, Tiger and about 7 or 8 others that I lovingly built all those years ago. But what a mess! The ravages of time has taken its toll - bits and pieces everywhere. The bottom of that big cardboard box was strewn with wheels and arms and legs and panels of varying shapes, sizes and colours. Not a pretty sight.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I am in the process of cleaning and restoring my armor so that, once again, it can take its rightful place along side my other models. I will post a few photo's of the restoration work as I go along if you are interested.

My question is......am I coming over to the 'dark side'? Is it armor that I really crave again and not aircraft.

Someone please help me....I am having an identity crisis and need to fully reconnect with my inner self Approve [^]

Regards,

Bob

What's Happening To You?

Your turning into a wonderful well-balanced treadhead. Congratulations.

Good luck on your restorations, you can always use the box to put your aircraft in!
Just kidding, they can co-exist I'm sure.

Welcome to the darkside!

BOB:

Scream as much and as loud as you canEvil [}:)]!! Resistance is futileEvil [}:)]!! Nobody can resist the vortex drawing force of the darksideBig Smile [:D]. Sooner or later, your skin will turn desert yellow with strips of red brown and dark green, and your eyes will turn green into olive drab. You won't hear the high pitch noise of jet engines in your dreams, replaceing that will be the vibration sound of diseal or gasoline engine. Your navel blue & grey paints all dry up soon. Worse, you will soon start to like mud, dust, oil and dirtShock [:O].

Well, on the bright side, you will learn Donald Sunderland in US Army tank uniform is The Good, Robert Shaw in SS tank uniform is The Bad and Tom Cruise in a F-14 jet uniform is The IdiotBig Smile [:D]

Armor is dirty, filthy, greasy, heavy, stinky, exhausting stuff. Males, young and old, are fascinated by it... as are so are women and girls once they figure out it's sooo much fun! You can camp by it, sleep on it and it keeps schrapnel from entering your skull.

Who could ask for more out of life?? Welcome back!

I think armor is so popular because of the potential for dioramas with the hobby , with airplanes unless it is on the ground in one form or the other ( crashed , fueling up or loading ordinance) the dio potential is pretty limited , whereas armour or lightskins you can have actual situations of combat or rest dioramas , combat in aircraft would be very difficult to simulate although I have seen it done and done pretty darn well mind you ! I do have a soft spot for the HIND helicopter here and plan on doing one soon ( it will be on the ground of course ) Thats just my opinion , however you can't win a war by ground or air forces alone , so they are both very cool to model ! PS plus planes are huge if you want detail, most of us have limited shelf space so 1/72 or1/35 armor is much more appealing shelfwise !

spector you are very right. i feel like i am a better modeler because of the addition of the darkside to my builds. maybe the better comment would be a more all around builder. and you are right there are so many different things you can do with armor.

i think we can put it on Winston Churchill... even tho' he was Secretary of The Navy
during WW1, he was the only fellow around at the time who thought an armored treaded vehicle mite come in handy on the battlefield... & the Mk. 1 was born...

resistance is futile, once u start down the dark path forever will it rule ur destiny !

wow... that's just phenomenal !
thanx 4 posting it, anyone that says that 1/72 is lacking detail should
take a good look at that model... it's amazing what some folks can do
w/ small scale kits, maybe someday i'll b capable of work like that !
thanx 4 sharing the pix !

Notice that wingy thingies are getting bigger and bigger, 1:32, 1:35, etc. ? The flyboys decided treadheads have more fun!
