NIGHT OF THE LIVING TREADS
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, June 10, 2004 11:07 AM
On a lark, I'm seriously (Tongue [:P]) considering putting my laborious truck and gun work aside for one night, namely tonight, and completely building and painting a 1/72nd scale tank -- all in one night.

Ok, so I am clearly insane. That said, anyone want to join me? I'm going to my LHS at lunch to get a small kit and a can of paint. This one will require a monotone paint scheme, for obvious reasons. Smile [:)]

Maybe a Stuart .... Definitely nothing open-topped! Laugh [(-D]

Who's in?

just can't wait for the Mad Tiger Day?
or don't want a Schnitzel-Wagen? Big Smile [:D]

this is just the kind of hare-brained scheme that would appeal to me, but i just
promised i would start no new projects until i finished my 4 in-progress kits.

and never on a 'school night' Tongue [:P]

C'mon, you rogues! Do you want to live forever?

What could be funnier than the pictures of a tank completely "built and painted" (and I use that term very loosely) in one night?

I'm on my way to the LHS right now!

I just got the Dragon 1/72 panzer. Neat kit. Metal bodied, but lots of nice detail. Got a tiger, kingtiger and two old ESCI 1/72s to finish. The sherman is almost ready to go. I decided to close all the hatches and stuff. I have problems dealing with an interior in 1/35 let alone 1/72

Not really, as I'm going to try to do a halfdecent job on the Tiger! Laugh [(-D]

I got the kit at lunch. What is it? Well, that's just a little bitty secret, isn't it? Tongue [:P] You'll see tomorrow, when I post the pics! Smile [:)]

Jeez, I tried to do a SdKfz 222 in a weekend with less than fabulous results. I'll never do that again. The 1/72 armor stuff has me perplexed. I know they are cheaper but I just cant shuck out cash for small armor when I could spend a little more and get something bigger. We all know bigger is better right? Wink [;)]

The cool thing about models is they are small representations of the real thing. I think there's something to be said for the smaller kits. And of course the main reason I'm doing this in 1/72 is that the little kits are generally simpler. (Not always, though, as some of the Eastern European Braille Scale kits are a major investment of time and effort.)

Anyway, is no one game to give it a go? Ah, the lonely path that is the Night of the Living Treads ....

Larry, I'd love to join you on this one, but I've got work tomorrow and so can't stay up all night like I used to (not in my 20's anymore, and haven't been for a WHOLE lot of years!)

Great luck to you on this. I'm looking forward to seeing your "secret weapon" in the morning!

It's not good to be tired in the Kursk salient!

I'll tell ya what, you buy me a 1/16th T-34, and I'll build it in a night. (Of course, I'll bring it to northern Sweden on a vacation!)

Six months of night doesn't qualify...
If I was in Northern Sweden right now, I'd probably be drunk with all my relatives instead of cold and rainy NY.Tongue [:P]

The tank is fully constructed, except the lower and upper halves are still separate. I just spraypainted the whole lower half a dust color. It turned out to be rather light, though, lighter than I thought. I may wind up giving it a darker wash rather than a highlight!

One way or another, It'll get finished tonite ....

Gee Larry. I logged on and saw this subject and thought....'Poor Larry. His dog must have worms'Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

Would love to join in, but my wife has arranged for us to host an Italian exchange student, and it would not be polite for me to igniore him first night. The cursing and swearing as I tried to put those itty bitty parts together might give him the wrong idea about meBig Smile [:D]
