Which colours?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 13, 2004 10:17 PM
So I have my first 2 kits and just started getting organized.
my dilemma is paint. I am going to paint the Tiger I grey , and the panther the yellow colour with green and brown camo.
I went to the LHS and was overwhelmed with choices both makes and shades of colours. Can you reccomend any that fit these German paint colours?
eg...
Testrs #....Dark Charcol (not a real one just a sample)

Thanks Mark

Tamiya Panzer Grey mixed with a little light blue and the Dark Yellow or Desert Yellow for acrylic. (All flat colors).

Model master makes some great colors and I think they keep the colors grouped by armies and/or periods. Look for Schwartz grau for the grey and Dunkelgelb for the yellow.

I prefer the Tamiya

I can help with Tamiya colours.

I use XF63 German Grey, XF60 Dark Yellow, XF64 Red Brown and XF61 Dark Green.

I like tamiya acrylics because they wash up in water, and smell nice.

Sigh... You'd think so, but sadly it doesn't.

Model Master makes a Dunkelgrun #4781 and a Schwartzgrau RAL 7021. I thought I had more, but I've been using more and more Tamiya.

Tamiya German Gray is a little too dark. As Mike (renarts) says lighten it. Or use XF53 Neutral grey. For Dunkelgreen I use XF11 JN Green for the same reason - just personal preferences. A wash will change whatever tint you use anyway.
