Panzer IV Tracks
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 25, 2004 8:59 PM
While building a Tamiya 1/35 scale Flakpanzer IV kit, I managed to completly destroy the kit tracks. Does anyone know where i can get a good set of replacement tracks? I was considering trying some sort of individual link track things. Thanks!

Friulmodel tracks are nice and they work so its easyer to fit onto the kit and to paint, but they cost a bit

Be careful with indy tracks as some are delicate and all are very time consuming.

You might be able to order a replacement tracks from the manufacturers. I've heard of others that have done so, maybe they will be able to help out. Good luck.

Academy makes a set of replacement individual tracks that are relatively easy to construct. They are set #1357 and run about $6-7. DML makes individual tracks as well but require a little more patience to assemble. The Fruil tracks will cost more than a new kit.

Richard.

Just a warning about the older Tamiya Kits. The teeth on the drive sprockets can be way too wide to fit some indy Tracks, and sometimes they are spaced too wide as well. Be prepared to undergo some surgery. Which flakpanzer are you building? Wirbelwind, Mobilewagon (quad 20mm), Mobilewagon (3.7mm), etc.

If you are in the USA, check out the Panzer IV Group build in this forum. Some guys are replacing their vehicles tracks with After market ones, and if you ask real nice, maybe someone will post/sell you cheap their old ones. Maybe one of the guys using Fruil will cough up their DML indies for you. You have nothing to lose by asking.

PS. The falkpanzers mostly had the late pattern 40cm tracks with the ice cleats. The early panzer IV's had 36cm tracks, whilst mid pro vehicles had 40cm tracks without the cleats. In other words, an Ausf D's tracks are no good to you.

Hey Richard

Try ModelKasten tracks for you Panzer IV Wirbelwind. They are excellent and don't cost as much as Friulmodel tracks
