When youv'e finished a project what do you save (other than the subject itself ). For me its the instruction sheets as they dont take up much space and they make for great memories.Tongue [:P]

Instructions and whatever spares I have left over. You can never have too many figures machine-guns, running gear etc. The day after you throw it out, you'll absolutely need it to replace a sacrifice to the Carpet Monster. Murphy will insist.

I save all parts on the sprues, as I do a fair bit of scratchbuilding, all instructions, and boxes if I like 'em. I have no models left from my youth, but lots of instructions, and some pretty pictures.

i toss all the boxes and save the parts on sprues, all the spares, but i cut the sprues to be real small so that only the peices i need are on them. i file the instructions and any left over decals in a manilla envelope.

Since I'm not a scratchbuilder, I don't save many extra parts. I used to save the box lids, but only on "cool art".

I save any extra accesories and weapons that may be able to find thier way into another build. Instructions as well, just in case my 3 yr old gets ahold of one and I have to rebuild ( allready came in handy once) and figures I toss in a box till it gets full and then deploy them to another builders workbench who may actually use them .

I save all spare parts, the empty sprues, instructions, and the box. At some point, I'll have to start tossing boxes, but I'll keep the best looking tops.

Fortunately , when I posted this same question months ago in here , I came to my senses and disposed of all my old boxes ,neatly filed any extra parts I may need in ONE box and got rid of ALL my old sprues that were no longer needed , making room for more junk in my modeling room , and I did just that , ordered more junk , so it was in vain anyways !Big Smile [:D]

I always save all the extra parts, decals, and the instruction sheet. If there are some interesting sprues (like really straight and round pieces, or pieces with nice corners) I'll save them, too. If the box art really impresses me, I'll cut it out and file it away, too.
One crazy thing I used to do in the college years was pin the whole box up on the wall. I'd pin the bottom part of the box on the wall, and just slap the top on it. My walls were covered with gravity-defying model boxes!
Of course, my roommates thought I was nuts!

The instructions. Spare parts are saved on their sprues, but excess sprue is cut away. I use a piece of masking tape and make a label for the sprue of what kit it was from. The box art I cut flat and put it away. Any loose parts go into small ziploc bags and are labeled.

One of the guys in the local club keeps a notebook that has all his builds in it. Paint colors and mixes, instructions, supplemental reference material, a bibliography sheet that records what books he got reference material from and notes. Pretty neet reference idea. ANd a nice memento from past builds.

Instructions, and parts breakdown, along with spare parts, some sprue for scratch building which I have limited capability. after years of saving the whole box, I started getting confused as to what I had built, and what I had not! so, I finally took that giant step and parted with all my boxes. They still keep popping up here and there. I didn't realize how big a "pakrat" I had become. It's part of the illness I'm told, and in my case it looks terminal. semper fi, mike

I save all my instruction sheets in a file drawer in my workbench/desk. They are sorted by country and branch of service; i.e. U.S. Army, British Air Force etc. I need the whole file drawer to hold all 850 instruction sheets! They come on handy when I need to repair a kit, or when I finally find a lost decal sheet.

I save all spare parts, removing them from the sprues and sorting them in a multi-drawer organizer like you see screws and nails stored in on woodworking benches.

I save all long sprues for stretching, and the stretched ones I store in a separate box.

I save all extra decals in ziploc bags labels by country in one of the files in my file drawer.

Most times I toss everything but spare parts and save some sprue depending on the color of the sprue, sometimes i melt down sprue for scratch building stuff.
Most times i will save the picture of the subject on the box(cut it out) and toss the instructions as they are mostly not needed depending on difficulty of the subject build. Sometimes i will save the entire box in case I need to pack it up, or if i get bored looking at it and need room to display.... Geuss it depends on how I feel at the moment... :)

Gee... I save everythingTongue [:P]

Sprue, box art (put up on wall as part of collection), decals, instructions, spare parts, even empty paints (the gunk on the bottom of some is great for weathering!)

Almost all of my scratbuilding is made up of old crap I saved from junky failure models like old pre-built, glue-stained cars and trucks I find at garage sales.Wink [;)]Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic]
