Hey all....just curious, who does everyone like for german armor? I have only worked on Tamiya models, but was curious to see if there are any other companies that I should look at.....

DML / DRAGON!!! Also Afv clubs new 251 is Awsome... hopefully they'll keep up the kits.

Tamiya's kits are great to be sure but I like DML for the value, variety and Indi links...

Tamiya fan here as well. I love Revell AG for 1/72. Dragon looks pretty good in the box, I haven't built the 1/35 Ketten or their 1/72s yet.
After getting the Trumpeter T-34, I have to say I'm very impressed and will look towards them in the future.

Let's see...

1st - DML for their value, indi tracks, and variety.
2nd - Tamiya for their molding (newer kits only), instructions, and ease of construction.
3rd - Academy for their interior details, excellent vinyl tracks, and overall value.

Enjoy,

I have seen the DML kits at the LHS, but haven't built one....is there a "must-have" kit from them for German armor??

If you can find it the henchel jagd tiger is nice. The nice thing about DML is they would just as soon throw in a whole sprue as one part so you get TONS of spares in some of their odder kits...ie Brummbar, and Jpanzer IV L70 both of which are nice kits...

I like most Tamiya and Dragon, and the newer Trumpeter. I like some of the Revell AG stuff, and some of the Academy and AFV Club offerings.

For aftermarket or limited stuff, Formations is extra nifty. So are the Eduard barrels (hussah!), WWII Productions treads and Accurate Armour sets.

I consider photoetch and resin zimmerit to be necesssy evils, so I won't comment on them. Laugh [(-D]

Must-have, Ken? I was going to sell mine. Tongue [:P]

I guess I'll hold it. I see the Jgdtgr as something of a white elephant as a vehicle, but I do admit that the kit's representation of the lumbering beast did look nifty in MMR when it came out.

Speaking for myself as a representative of the Braille Scale Builders of these Forums, my favorite 1/72 scale kits come from:

1) Revell/Germany
2) PST
3) Italeri

in that order.

The only German stuff I've built to date has been from Revell and Italeri. Not the greatest of all, but decent kits. I have a boatload of DML and Tamiya kits waiting to be built, and a few Academy kits as well. The earlier Academy ones aren't that great. I have the Pz.Kpf IV wirbelwind, and the Tiger 1 with full int. The wirbelwind is a decent kit, but not the greatest detail. Overall, I'd probably stick with DML.

Dragon is pretty darn good, I've got a few of them and have built one of their Stug III's and a Panzer III. I like them, they're cute.

I am a huge Dragon fan. i like tamiya but they are pricey. sometimes, if i don't feel like dealing with the indi tracks (don't get me wrong, i love indi tracks) or are short of time i will order the vinyl/rubber tracks from Tamiya to fit the Dragon model i am constucting. it works like a charm!! and Kennethc, i just finished the Jagdtiger you speak of and it is a very fun and satisfying build. right now i am doing the Dragon King Tiger, Porsche turret and it is turning out to be more fun than the Jagdtiger!!

DML has the best figures. Academy has great German armor but their decals straightup suck. Tamiya takes the cake as the best all around at making German tanks

Tamiya is the best. I've only been disappointed by others, like Dragon and Italeri. I don't mind spending the extra cash for Tamiya kits, because they keep me busy for a while. However, the ultimate factor is who makes the topics that I want.

I have always built Tamiya but am growing fond of Academy many of the kits come with individual track links and photo etch goodies and there is always some interior detail.

I know that Academy make the Tiger I with full detail, and it is a must buy....but do they make any other German armor that everyone recommends? I also found a website that has short reviews made for every armor model out there....http://www.amps-armor.org/Reviews/AmpsReviews2.asp

I have only made Tamiya Models as of this moment but I do have a few Academy, Including the Tiger with full interior. I also have a dragon Firefly waiting as well as a couple other manufacturers in my stash but I would go with Tamiya if I had to pick.
