Possible Case of Insanity...

Yes...more kits. LOL.

I've followed the same path Bill. I lurk in the web stores and see if something is ridicuously on sale. Well ModelExpo awhile back had Tamiya kits at 50% off. Couldn't resist that and happily stocked up on some. I used to build one at a time, now I start and move on to the next kit and repeat.

You can not possibly resist the darkside of the darkside. The bad side that tells you to buy more and build more at the same time. Come on you can do it. Soon you will have three models going at once. HEHE

Ahhh yes the sickness. The need for more plastic.Dont feel bad I think everyone here has more plastic on the shelf unbuilt than in the LHS. I know I can open a small shop.

I also blame slow time at work...it's dangerous. All of my coworkers are at a convention in Las Vegas and I was left to hold down the fort. Which means they lose money to the games/slots and I "invest" money in kits.

So Bill, if I'm following you correctly, when the "massive" "investment" (yeah, right!) order arrives, you'll have a total of 4 whole unfinished kits. Is that right?? (PIKER!!)

When your stash reaches close to 50 armor and well over 300 planes, ships, cars, si-fi, and what not, then come and "complain"! Until then, just knucke under to the inevitable and "BUY MORE KITS"!! (Or did I see that somewhere above!!) LOL

Bill, probably the best and most immediate treatment for this escalating condition, is to continue to buy"MORE KITS". At present there is not a treatable cure for your situation. Just "BUY MORE KITS". You could try aspirn, but It never helped me. semper fi, mike

Yup then the wife loses count and so do you. Since I have been doind armor in the past 7 months I have purchased over 100 kits. And since I feel this strange urge to by more kits I will place another order for the leapord A6 and churchill since they are on sale. Oh ya................. buy more kits

.........and Christmas is only 5 months away. What better way is there to have an excuse to get more plastic and PE?

My wife is an extremely good CFO...she knows where every penny goes and while I am usually free to pick up a kit when I want to, this latest round just about stretched the limit. I can't complain...only way I'd get that large a stash is if they dropped in my lap for something like $5 a piece....which is probably how such stashes come to be in the first place...

My addiction got so bad I closed my bank account, Direct deposited my weekly checks to my wifes account and asked my wife to allot myself only 20$ a month for paints and such. I was seriously out of hand, grabbing up anything that looked interesting.
I have waaaay more kits than I need at the moment and can survive on what I have for at least the rest of the year. I've blown too much money in too short of a time period.
I still have an Academy 1/35 Tiger (Full interior), 2 Verlinden HMG bunkers, Kubelwagen, SDKFZ 223, SdKfz 251/1 Ausf D, SdKfz 250/1, various Dio pieces and Boxes of figures falling everywhere, at least 8 of them..... Halftrack Crewman, Machine Gunners, Recon figs, Tank Crewmen, Infantry...You name it.
But believe me, when my mother-in -law passes some cash down to me, you can bet Im in the hobby store immediately. Have fun guys!

You will absolutely love the Academy Full Interior Tiger. It is engineered to be displayed as either a standard model with removable top on the turret and hull or as a standard interior/cutaway. I chose the cutaway and the level of detail and intricacy is just outstanding. This one had me riveted for over a month working virtually every day with every spare moment I had. It got a special case all its own and sits on my desk at work. I wish Academy offered more like that.

I have temporarily nipped my illness in the bud , currently I have only 3 builds either in progress or in the waiting ! But seriously I am going to finish what I have , to actually have something to show at next years downeastcon , and maybe the Conn. show next spring ! Would be kinda nice to have some of my disasters judged ! Anyhow my list of current builds ,...... Marder III just first and second coat painted tonight , Stuh 42 for the upcoming GB ( kinda already started , but now put on hold ) and a Panther G late which still needs some AM parts And I am still trying to get the inspiration to throw an interior into my Jagdtiger ( sometimes I am kinda lazy in this dept ) !!!!!! DML has a great marketing ploy by limiting the runs of thier armour , we all go out and scoff them up before they become dicontinued !

When I started up again last December, I vowed that I would do 1 kit at a time and that I wouldn't accumulate a stash. I figured the two are linked. If there is no stash, I would follow each project through to the end. So far I haven't had two kits going at the same time despite some enormous temptation that has occurred because I now have a few, (very few, compared to some of you) kits in the house. It's an evil trap. I find myself rationalizing buying another kit by telling myself that I'm going to buy it later anyway, so I might as well get it now to make sure it doesn't disappear off the shelves.

I've fallen victim to a very similar situation as you describe I think....mine revolves around shipping costs from online suppliers. They are soooo sneaky with their shipping is free with X level of purchase promotions that I get dragged in. <shakes fist at marketing schemers>

I know I'm interested in X kit so why not get it now and save the extra $6 or so on shipping? Plus it's already sitting there when I finish the current one for a nice seamless process....the path is a slippery one!

Exactly! Don't want to be waiting around with nothing to build. That could easily lead to panic and a massive kit buying binge. Heck, we're probably saving money buying a kit or two on a regular basis.

Seriously though, I never had more than three or four kits in waiting for most of the 33 years I've been building. That was until I went to my first Kit Collectors Exposition and Sale. I went with about 100 dollars and it was outrageous! I went to my first booth where I scored about 20 1/72 scale Armor kits for about 20 dollars. Later I bought a couple of ship kits before going to another table where I picked out about 8 aircraft kits. Total cost was about 50 dollars, but I'd put the change from the last transaction in a different pocket, so I only pulled out 15 dollars. The guy asked me what was wrong, and I told him that I wanted these eight kits but I didn't have enough money. He asked how much I had, I told him. He said, "Give me the 15 dollars for what you want. I want to get rid of these." SCORE! [:0] After I spent all 100 dollars, I think I walked out of there with about 65 kits altogether . That was the start of my 200+ stash I have now. But, with 900 models finished and 10 more in progress, I think still have a good ratio of finished to waiting.

That is impressive. I work at the rate of about 1 kit per month, maybe 3 weeks if it's not too complex. 900 kits would take me a lifetime which from your statement is how long you've been modelling.

Yes, wbill I have been building almost non-stop for about 33 years. I guess that's how I've been able to amass such a collection. I work at the rate of about 2-3 kits a week, but that's because I usually have about 7 to 10 projects going at the same time! It has been great fun too! These Forums have made it even more enjoyable since I can share my successes with everyone here.

I've succumbed to BMKS (Buy More Kits Syndrome) and purchased 4 more Dragon kits. Their D-Day commemorative Panther A (can't pass up the included PE and aluminum barrel!), a StuG III C/D, the Sdkfz 2 Kettenkrad w/Pupchen (still trying to determine just what a Pupchen is... ), and Pzkw I Ausf B.

Scientific research indicates that there is no cure for BMKS but conditions can be regulated by a steady diet of newsletters, forums, and discount sales.

I think the vast majority of us have the BMKS. I do, but have controlled it pretty well so far this year.
