Leopard 2A5-almost done (pics)
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 16, 2006 1:40 PM
Just finished painting the tracks for my Tamiya 1/35 Leopard 2A5 (same one I asked questions about in my other topic) and I figured I'd post some pics of them and the progress on the tank. I airbrushed the one-piece vinyl tracks with MM Rust acryl, then hand-painted each track pad (yeah, 320 track pads... I guess I'm insane) with MM flat black. Next up is a dry-brushing with steel on the insides where the road wheels make contact, then the tracks will be weathered with pastels with the rest of the tank.

I'll get some photos of the tank itself later...

ok just took some shots of the hull and turret here they are:

I used the Eduard PE set, omitting a few details that didn't need replacing. Even without the PE set the Tamiya kit is a beauty. I airbrushed everything NATO green, then airbrushed the NATO black through a mask on the hull. I then realized how complex the masking of the turret would be, so I decided to try my 2nd freehand camo scheme and IMHO I think it came out pretty well. I just need to get a fine needle for my Paasche H for my next camo job... Anyways comments/questions/criticism welcome.
*edit* forgot to mention the reason it has a glossy finish if because of (duh) the gloss coat I applied for decals and then a wash

Very nice paint.  You are going to paint the inside road wheels right?

thx for the compliments in answer to the two questions yes I am going to paint the inner roadwheels just haven't gotten to it yet, figuring I'd save the easy painting for laterBig Smile [:D]. Oh BTW any suggestions for what color I should dry-brush with? I was thinking of dry brushing each "patch" of color with that color lightened, but I'm not sure how it will look compared to a lightened shade of green.

The camo work is just great. May want to tone down the rusting of the tracks. Have not seen too many pics of modern stuff that is rusted so heavily.

thx for the compliments. about the rust here's two photos of the 2A5 I got off the internet:

Maybe my rust color is a little too deep, but I'd say it's pretty close IMHO. However if I'm wrong let me know.
