What to do with the BR52....
Posted by wbill76 on Friday, July 14, 2006 5:15 PM

I recently completed one of the longest projects I've ever taken on...and it all happened by accident! Back when Trumpeter released their BR52, I got the kit and wrestled with it for a while until it was built, but in the process the idea of "what to do" with it began to take shape...a locomotive by itself just doesn't look right...so I started in on the idea of a military transport dio for it...and thus a 5 month project was born.

Kits used (all 1/35 scale):

Trumpeter BR52 Locomotive
DML Pz IV-E 3-in-1
DML SSY Flatcar
DML Flak 38
Ironside Lowsided Flatcar

Scrounged stowage for the flatcar from the spares bin, scratched a lot of things including some of the cargo, both tarps, the tiedown ropes, etc. Used scale chain (27 links per inch) from an HO railroader supplier that a buddy pointed me to on E-bay. Purpose built the base was made out of red oak from Home Depot and stained with "Honey Wheat" stain. Whole thing, including the base, works out to 60" in length. I also, which isn't shown in this photos, had to build a shelf to hold the completed thing in my office, but that's another story.

Here she is (lots of pics):

The so call accident is outstanding.  Too bad you dont have a round track and a powered engine.  You could really have a set up that would impress those model train buffs.  I say again, OUTSTANDING!

Really, that is awe-inspiring!  Nicely done.  That has to be a great addition to any wall/office/shelf.  Great work, and thanks for sharing it with us.
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.

I'm so glad to see you building again Bill. Amazing. I love the faded look you gave it. Welcome back friend.

Appreciate the comments!

Eric,

Thanks in particular for the welcome back. I think they'd have to pry the #11 knife out of my cold dead hands to keep me from building. Smile [:)]
