My M35A2 is done!!! (pics)
Posted by 036hir on Thursday, September 21, 2006 3:52 PM

I finally finished my AFV Club M35A2 after 7 years sitting on my bench just needing paint! I Scratchbuilt an S280 shelter for the back and attached a cargo trailer with cargo including a scratched-up welding torch set. Camo nets are 4x4 gauze soaked in white glue and Oregano sprinkled on one of them. They were placed on the vehicle wet and tied down then painted later. Shelter is tied down with lifting eyes, cables, and scratched-up turnbuckles. Tarp on the trailer is tissue soaked in white glue and applied wet then painted when dry. The kit was basically OOB.

Fantastic job! Looks like something that should be parked outside the DFAC at Anaconda.

Also, the pics are excellent. Question: How do you do the pics? Is this in a studio?

Pics were taken with a Canon S1IS 3.2 megapix digital camera set on manual and ASA of 200. Backdrop is light blue poster board lit with color balanced flourescent tubes overhead. Camera was set for color compensation for the lights, and using no flash. This was all done on my modelling bench. The recent article in FSM got me going on this. I think I still need to get some of those fill lights, though. Some of the pics were a little dark and took some small manipulation in photo editing software.

Awesome.  I like the turnbuckles.  And the tarp on the trailer looks pretty good also.  Excellent job!

Everything looks ultra realistic.

Italeri's M925 shelter truck has one that is close.

036hir,

I just got my AFV M35A2 from great models and can't wait to build it.  Is there any thing I need to look out for?

Thanks for any info.

Nope, it is a great kit and builds up with no issues.  Good luck on it.

Thanks for the info.  I am going to build it with no gun ring and USAF marking for the 5th Combat Communications Group.  Will bring back alot of memories for me.

Spent all of my time with the 5th Combat Comm at Robins AFB,GA.  I was Wideband Communications Equipment specialist.  Small world.  It's good to be in such good company on this site.
