Some members thought it would be a nice idea to post the finished pics in a thread of it's own. I say a great idea, hence this thread. Enjoy. Smile [:)]

How did you achieve that really dusted look to your Panther D Rooster?

i mixed up some MIG pigments, i think i used the colors european dirt, dry mud, and european dust int oa mixture, then added isopryl alcohol to it making it about as thick as paint, then i airbrushed it on with a low pressure focusing on the lower hull. keep in mind that after this you still have to "steel" up the tracks, sprockets, and track horns, and be sure to watch your fingerprints, as the mixture will dry just like pastels.

Ah, neat trick! I'll give it a go! (test before of course!)

The dusty look really gives it that authentic look of the dusty plains in the russian summer

well fellow modelers,to some this may seem mediocre, and to others a gem.this is what i have to offer.from my personal view of it.it seems one thinks ,or finds that something is missing.or something else should be added.taken away,or is not correct in some way or form.but this is what i built and this is what you get.after all this is what we do.i'll probably never own an airbrush, never have the volumes of reference.and most likely build from what the box art shows, perhaps even a vehicle that never existed.but have fun doing it.thank you for your time.greg

Nothing to be ashamed about Greg, it's a definite keeper. You proved you don't need an AB to crank out a beautiful build. Thanks for participating.

Both look great! Bultenibo--the color is perfect IMO.  Is there any story behind the corner/side missing from theat boxy-thingy on the front right fender?

Hey Guys!  Forgot about this thread for finished Kursk GB builds.  Here's my vehicle serving the Glorious Motherland in the Great Patriotic War

Its a Revell kit (rebox of Italeri/Zvezda) with a Caliber 35 laminate turret, Armorscale Small Fuel Tanks, Tank Maker rubber rimmed roadwheels, old ModelKasten non-workable indie links AND (whew!) the tool boxes from the Dragon T-34/85 kit!

Here is my finished Tamiya 1/35 Tiger I Early for the Kursk Group Build.  I did mine up as S33 with "Das Reich" as it appeared during the early phases of operation Zitadelle.  Cool [8D]

Tamiya's Tiger I Early is a very nice kit, but I added a few extras to spruce it up:

  • Friulmodel individual metal track links.  I used small pins to link them together instead of the provided wire.
  • Tamiya grill screens for the engine deck
  • Eduard turned aluminum barrel

It was painted exclusively with Tamiya Acrylics and most of the weathering was accomplished with a series of oil washes.  I applied a light dust coat before I applied the decals, and another when everything was finished for blending purposes.  I also used Future before and after the decals were applied, and used Future mixed with Tamiya Flat Base for the final flat coat.

You'll notice that the Smoke Grenade launchers have been cut off.  It was fairly common, especially in Das Reich, to cut off the launchers with a cutting torch as they had a nasty habit of discharging if they were hit by small arms fire or shrapnel, this blinding the tank.  I studied my reference photos to try to replicate what the metal stubs looked like.

The symbol on the front and sides of the tank is the Chinese Kanji character for good luck applied upside-down.  They got the idea from a signet ring.

I deviated from the Tamiya decal placement guide as it is incorrect.  I have pictures of S33 during Zitadelle and the unit symbol for Das Reich was located on the right side of the front armor plate next to the Kanji character, not on the left as the instructions would have you place it.

I really enjoyed building this Tiger as it's the first built one in my collection.  It now has a place of honor on the top shelf of my display case along with my Panther V Ausf. A "GrossDeutschland" and PzKpfw IV Ausf. G with 15th PD in Tunisia.  Cool [8D]

Nice going Scott, you beat me for once. LOL I already commented in the Kursk GB. I'd better get on the stick next week and finish up my build, so the Motherland doesn't get over-run.
