'Twas a Good Year
Posted by wbill76 on Thursday, December 20, 2007 5:18 PM

I'm heading out for vacation tomorrow and will be gone for a while, so in the spirit of the end of the year that's fast approaching, a thread for all the forum-crawlers to post their year's work is in order! While I know that biffa will have the longest (28 IIRC is the current count?!) to post, it doesn't matter if you did 1 or 100...so, without further ado...I'll start it off.

DML Tiger I Initial as #100.

DML 15cm Sturminfanteriegeschutz auf Pz III (or SiG 33B as it's really known).

Tamiya's Char B1 bis.

CyberHobby Sd.Kfz. 251/23 Ausf D.

DML's Dicker Max

DML's Sd.Kfz. 251/17 Ausf C Luftwaffe Version

Tamiya's Marder III M

Trumpeter Panzerjaegerwagen Vol. 1

DML's Pz.Kpfw. I-A Modified w/ Interior

DML's StuG III Ausf G "Final"

Wow Ian, that Matilda is the pick of the litter for me. It just stands out ....not to take away from the rest of those beauties. That Comet is way cool. I really started getting interested in the Comet after I saw an episode on the miltary channel where one was being restored.

Great work man,

Thanks Steve!  The old Tamiya 'Tilly deffinately shows it's age in a couple places, but it was lt was fun getting to try my hand at desert weathering, plus it was only $12, can't argue with that.

Well, I am nowhere near the same class as the owners of all the previous builds, but here are some pics of my (photographed) builds for the year. I hope to finish my current build, a Hasegawa 155mm Long Tom before the end of the year. Missing in this line up are a Hasegawa 1:72 (1:70ish) M4A3E8 Sherman and a Heller Dewoitine D.510 which built up well but the decals could not be bleached enough to remove the brown tint.

The armour is in order of construction. Hopefully there might seem to be an improvement in my armour building and finishing skills! I have learned a great deal from all this year, particularly the doog and I would like to sincerely thank everyone that has helped me along my new journey building armour. Aircraft modelling is different in many ways to building armour.

1:72 Dragon T-34/85

1:72 Trumpeter JS-3M "Pike"

1:144 Bombardier Challenger CL604 "Swiss Air Ambulance"

1:72 Hobby Boss P-47D Thunderbolt Easy-kit (24 hours over a month, non-fussy build)

Eric you have built some awesome looking models my friend with some excellent finishes i really like your paint schemes and how you blend them in and the KV broke new ground for you with some great weathering, well done.

Ian a great year for you, the have really got a knack for the weathering and beating down of these things, great job i too love the matty, i look forward to seeing the comet done.

Well i have had a terrific year and really enjoyed all of it, out of the following models 3 of them were full build/review articles, 2 were weathering articles and 1 was a short article all published on armorama and im kinda proud of that as writing is not one of my strong points, here they are some better than others but i try finish everything i start no matter how bad it is, bottom line is they were all fun to do.

That Zis-5 still is my favorite I think.  Even among all of your famously (infamously? Evil [}:)]) well weathered builds, that one in specific just looks absolutely stunning. I like how you leave a bit of "sheen" on your russian green/dark green subjects, looks much more like metal than pure flat.  You can see this especially well on the pershing.

Thank you Steve. I built it for the Italeri GB back in February. I wish I did some of things that I recently did to my Trumpy KV. Here's a few more:

I must say the work here is stunning. So many inspiring builds that it motivates me to try harder next year.

That looks great Eric, thanks for those extra shots.

You know, I think these models  show the rest of the "community" that there are some top notch modelers here @ FineScale. I might also add that if the editors of the magazine don't publish this stuff, they are making a huge blunder. Just think how cool a "2007 wrap up" feature would be. These builds need to go public IMHO.

Great work all,

Don't worry, my year's output was pathetic. Since April, I have ground to a halt as far as finishing things.

Luckily for me I'm camped out at the Subaru dealership getting some work done. Lucky, because they have some pretty speedy broadband that puts my crap dialup to shame! Disapprove [V] Without it I wouldn't have gotten to look at all of these builds...man, they're amazing! I know I've seen some of them before (certainly not all though) but seeing them in a massive group is just further proof of some spectacular stuff coming through this forum. Big Smile [:D]

Biffa, you're a MACHINE. 29 finished, not a dog amongst them...you even finished the new DML Tiger Late? Have we seen that before? The darn kit just came out!

Bow [bow] to all of you. Great stuff!!!

Truly inspirational work from all of you.....

I have to say that my own work has improved since I started lurking here. The openness that is displayed by all of you in sharing techniques and results is great.

Sure wish I could detail a beast like all of you guys, especially you, tread. I stare at your pics until I don't remember what day it is.
