Tigerman, mind if I join the build? I've got a DML Hornisse I just picked up at a show today.

On the bench: Italeri Leopard 1A2 correction build with Perfect Scale turret and Eduard PE

Did we ever determine if any of the AM barrels would fit the Tamiya Jagdpanzer??

Question:  Is there supposed to be a vision block of some sort in these covers?  (see the circle in red in the picuture.)

If so, what color do you paint them?  Flat black?  Clear Green??

Jester,

I never figured it out.  I just sanded and puttied the heck out of the one that I had, and then made sure that I put camo on the barrel to make it visually confusing.

And finally, to ensure coverage of one pesky seam, I added the decal kill rings over the top of the seam.  And Voila!  A halfway decent barrel.   (though not a decent picture!)

Check out the 5th picture down. As to what colour ... I'd go for black or black-green

If anyone is thinking about doing the Jagdpanzer Kanone, it might be an idea to wait until later in the year. Revell Germany are spposed to be bringing out a new-mould kit in 1/35.

Meanwhile back on the Nashorn, things are beginning to come together. I've dry-brushed light brown and pale tan colours to give it a 'used' look, and graphite powder to areas where the paint has worn off. I've also dry-brushed the areas of the tracks which would receive most wear with dull metallic colours, and gone over the tips of the guide horns with a silver gel pen. It looks a bit bright at the moment, but I'm expecting that further weathering will tone this down.

Earlier this morning I cemented the major sub-assemblies together. Here are piccies of the interior of the fighting comparment:

and gun breech detail:

Assembling the fighting compartment front armour after installing the gun showed poor fit (probably my fault) so I filled the gaps with white glue, so as not to damage the existing paintwork:

When this has dried, I'll spray the seams with Mattcote, and dry-brush the surrounding area with suitable colours so as to blend everything in. Thenit'll be on to weathering, which I'll be restricting to light mud and earth oversprays of the lower hull and running gear, and then some weathering powders in suitable places.

Cheers,

Chris.

Chris,

I really like the weathered look you have achived. Also as you allready stated, those shells came out very nice.
Will be interesting to see how that white glue fix turnes out, I have never used it but it looks very promising!

Thank You for posting :)

Brews,

Of course.   I used some 60 grit sandpaper rolled up tight. Then I removed pieces of grit at small intervals around this ersatz sanding stick. I turned the paper in and out of the barrel at exactly the same angle.  After about 18 hours of this I had managed to bore out the barrel to a depth of 3.175".  Then I realized that as a lefty I was turning my hand the wrong way and all the grooves and lands run the wrong way!

So I filled it in with putty and just painted it flat black.

..Or maybe I just made that up and just painted it black in the first place. I forget which.

You should have a periscope in there, http://tiger1.info/EN/VerticalPeriscope.html gives you an idea about how this looked on a Tiger.
The interesting thing here is that the periscope housing actually was brown Bakelite.

Hope this helps

Absolutely. I think this pushes our number to 42 members. Wow. I'd like to get some work done, but have been distacted by a leak in the main waterline. Fortunately it was outside near the meter box. A teeny little hole leaked like a seave. It now appears fixed. Hope to be back in action Monday or Tuesday. So far work has been slow.

Excellent work so far Chris. Love the weathering.

Specter, whose Jagdpanther did you get?

Thanks Tigerman. I've been working on the Hornisse so much it may be ready for paint tomorrow. Spectre got the DML from the mid 90's. He got it at the same show I was at.

I think around march when I go buy my next batch of models a TD will be in there, mayby an M10 or a jagdpanzer IV. So Id like to join this GB sometime in the future. Also, I figured I might ask just for the heck of it, but can I join in with my DML JSU-122? Its a bit late in the process, mostly all of the construction is finished (just need to attach the tools and small boxes) and everything;s been given the russian green basecoat, and I have to glue together the hull halfves. I think its probably too late in the process, but I figured I would ask anyways just in case.

Great job to all of the other builds here, they all look fantastic!

Yeah, it sounds a bit too progressed. You still have plenty of time to get either of the other two kits.

Wow Wric, bummer about the waterline, but at least you kinda live uphill, so the water should go downhill and you probably didn't have much risk of flooding.  Glad to hear it's fixed.  Make a Toast [#toast]

Got some work done on my Marder III over the past week inspite of this Censored [censored]flu bug.

I had planned on doing this oob but the kit was missing a few detail's so I added some using some thin brass sheet and wire.

This is the deck mounted mp40 rack that I also made from brass. The kit one was molded to the mp and since I plan on having it hanging from one of the seat's I had to make another one.Still need to add the snap clamp's.

One of the reason's I do'nt like band track's is that the guide teeth are alway's solid. I drilled the's out then using a new #11 blade very carefully carved them out.

I've got about eight hour's into this so far, I'll be starting on the gun and sheild this week.I'll keep ya posted.  Later, Panz.

Some great looking progress here, everyone!

Construction on my Jagdpanzer was done until the cat got into my modeling room and knocked the fenders off. So now I have a little more work to do before I start with paint Censored [censored]

For every modeling technique that works, I have three that don't.

Well, folks, I am close to calling this one complete.   Here are some close-to-final pictures.

(this means, of course, I think I am done, but will have to fix whatever glaring errors and hacks that you guys point out!!)

As usual, comments and critiques very welcome.

Thanks for looking!!

Wow DerOberst, I've barely finished the lower hull on my Jagdpanzer IV and you finished. Granted every piece of mine is an ordeal to clean. I just need to work continuously on her.

I really like the tow-cable and the faded camoflauge. You've made a case to put on the schurzen on my Jagd.

Panzerguy, nice work on the PE. Small stuff.
