1/9 scale Harley Davidson army WLA finished (pics)
Posted by FoxbaT73 on Friday, January 25, 2008 10:03 AM

After the 1/9 scale Triumph 3HW and the 1/9 scale Zundapp KS750, i started the next project; the 1/9 scale HD WLA (Liberator) from Italeri.

The engine and frame are finished, the next thing is the frontfork and the wheels.

Greets,

Karel

Fox,WOW! My brother has a Harley shop here in New Hampshire and he has a couple of old "flatties" and you've got the look down pat with the oil stain's and grung under the frame.Looking foward to seeing this when it's done.

Karel,

Are you the guy who makes these things out of paper and card stock?  Even if not -- incredible work!  Thanks for sharing!

Crazy work fella. You have the weathering off too a fine art. Could you give us a few pics on the process of weathering a part? Im sure there are a few of us who would find it invaluable.

Great work.

it`s very difficult to explain the weathering because i use many different techniques to achieve this finish.

In case of the battery (pictures below); first of all i paint it the base color, Olive Drab (enamel)

Then i apply the light colored orange-rust pastel from the Tamiya weathering kit.

After dry, i apply thinned Raw-Umber oil paint (70-30%) directly on the pastels, which give the dark rust colors.

Strangly, because of the pastels the oil paint dries immediately (at least it looks like it because it gets matt/dull the moment the oil paint mixes with the pastels)

By adding more or less thinnner (white spirit) you can change the rust shades.

Then i spray on a coat of matt clearcoat to seal the paint, because the pastel/oilpaint mixture is very vulnerable.

The little rust dots i apply with a tiny piece of sponge.

Forgive me for writing/language faults because i`m not writing English that often Wink [;)]

The battery is ready and mounted

WOW, Karel--that's what we call "scary good" around here!

That's simply outstanding! Quite honestly some of the best weathering I've ever seen!

Outstanding! Dont think I´ve ever seen anything like your weathering. You should write a how to for all us less talented mortals. How long did it take you to do that? I´ve been sitting here for about half an hour saying wow and a few other words they won´t let me print here over an over again. The bobber is killer as well! Keep on building and posting, folks are definitely impressed.

Thanks everybody Make a Toast [#toast], a friend of mine came along this evening with a very expensive camera so we shoot this pictures, wich are way better than the pictures i took with my small camera. The brown-tints on the pictures from my small camera were not good.

Wow. Amazing.

As someone who is struggling to master the basics, this appears to be black magic!  I have no idea how you get this stuff to look this good.

The rust looks, well, exactly like rust. The glass, glass.  I am flabbergasted!

Nicely done, sir!
