Hey Doog,

I love the diorama base back on Page 2 -- I didn't see any info about it in the surrounding text. Where's it from? A kit, a scratchbuild???

Hi Doog

We do not get that mag down under, more the pity...Sounds great though as the major publications focus on 1:35 .

About 60% done with my 1:72 Su-100. Looks good so far, very pleased.

Cheers

Doog,

I was reading Bill's comments.  I agree with him if we are talking about a tank shell, but what about a panzer faust or panzer shrek?

Hey IAnovice; yeah, a panzerschreck might probably leave that type of damage, but I'm not too worried about it; it's purely "artistic license", as is so much of this tank.  The whole "shell hit" thing seems to have met with mostly approval, both here and over at Armorama, so I think I'l leave it.

I think it's important to not lose sight of personal touches to models, whether or not they are 100% technically correct. I mean, I wouldn't have added a Pak 40 as a secondary armament or a set of PZ IV schurzen on rails to something like this, but a little "what if" on a spare track is within "plausible", perhaps?

Who knows--it could have been like a Russian RPG or something? Hey, if we're going to postulate a tank like this at the end of the war, hypothetically, anything is possible??

Madmike--I built up the 1/72 version of this, pretty much OOB; I liked the look of the kit; I just wish I did the hull corrections, but in that scale they're not that noticeable.

Hey, I know you like 1/72 (like me Wink [;)]); did you see that the new "Armor" magazine is all 1/72 builds? I just picked it up and it's COOOOL!!!!!

Oh lovely work Doog. I have this monster in braille to do and your big cousin build is inspiring!

The Commander (Hans?) looks rather pumped up after perhaps popping another IS-3? Is he an ace now?

Cheers

Doog,

I was reading Bill's comments.  I agree with him if we are talking about a tank shell, but what about a panzer faust or panzer shrek (I'm sure I misspelled the last one).  With a tank tread in the way, wouldn't it would take the brunt of the charge and lessen the likelihood of penetration.  That's why we use slat armour on the Stryker, right?  Although, I'm not sure that the track section wouldn't be more messed up from a hit, but it seems like a a plausible scenario (I can't be certain, I've never been shot at with an RPG while in an armoured vehicle - maybe Rob or one of the other active duty guys would have some insight).

I only have one nitpick: It should have a Blaupunkt or Becker sound system, of course. Bose is too.....well, simple.

I love this tank!

The paint scheme, the weathering, the battle damage just fit perfectly together.  Those impact marks really add to the beat down nature of the "beast."  The huge E-100 and Maus have a soft spot in my heart as well....

Three Cheers to Doog!  Make a Toast [#toast]

No worries doog, just information as I mentioned. I think you captured the "what-if" aspects of this build from start to finish extremely well. The splattered look definitely stays with you and is a very creative touch to the overall look. As usual it is outstanding. I'm sure Hanze and Franze are happy with their latest vehicle. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

The details of battle damage are excellent. The hit on the track looks great. Now the next question....what scene are you going to create for Hanze and Franze and their new wheels!!

Very nice piece of work Doog! Thumbs Up [tup]

My only comment is about the spare track/shell hit and it's just information only, take it for what it's worth. Tank track aren't hardened steel in the sense that armor plate is and the fact that they are connected only by a rod pin to each other and to the spare track holder would dictate how they would behave if struck by a high velocity round. This would mean that any sort of hit to them would not leave one link in place/intact and the other splattered as you have depicted. Assuming it was an AP round and not HE or HEAT, it would've penetrated easily through the link and continued to attempt to penetrate the hull due to the kinetic energy at work. For the idea to work, I would think that you would be much more likely to have a torn away hanger, no links present, and a prominent scar on the hull as a result. Just my My 2 cents [2c]. The idea is a great one and very creative.
