1/35 Tamiya Panther Tank Finished
Posted by modelfreaks on Saturday, July 26, 2008 5:46 PM

I just finished building this Panther tank. It took me almost 6 months doing a little bit at a time. I used my dad's airbrush to paint the dark yellow. Then used index cards and a hole punch to make a como template. Then I sprayed the dark green and dark brown como. Then I weathered my Panther by dry brushing dark earth and buff. Last was the decals Hope you like it.

Jonathan - age 10

Looks good. For future reference, the outer part of the wheels on this Panther are rubber and therefore should be black.A very nice job though.Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi Jonathan!

You are THE MAN!!!--er, uh...I mean,..."THE BOY!!" Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] That's a grrrrrrreat looking Panther!

It's cool that you worked at it a little bit at a time, and that you didn't rush through it! When I work on models, I do the same thing--a little bit a a time, and pretty soon you have a masterpiece, just like you have here!

I like the camo scheme, and how you darkened the barrel end! The drybrushing and weathering look pretty good too! And I'm sure you can fix the rubber part of the wheels without too much of a problem! Just paint one on each side every day, and in a week and a day, you'l be finished!

A great job!

What's next on your table?

That is excellent work Jonathan, you should be proud of your accomplishment.  I hope the tank I'm working on looks as good when I'm finished.  Good job!

Jonathan, are you sure you are 10 ?

Wow, when I was 10, I dont have that experience and tools.

My only supply was UHU plastic glue which took forever to dry, and my paint was a water paint which at that time I cannot figure it out why the paint wont stick. So my solution was to add more water paint and as thick as it can gets.

Nice work Jonathan, I hope you keep on building.

Darn fine work for 10 years of age. Much better than I back then. I applaud your patience. When I was that age, I built them up in a day or two. Keep up the good work.

very well done young man! Good crisp construction, great pics!

You may want to take pics of your WIPs so you can get feedback as you, plenty of GREAT people in here who are always lending a hand in helping with builds. Look forward to more of your work! Cheers

Excellent job. I was nowhere near up to tackling something as complex as a tank when I was 10 years old.

AWESOME! My very first armor model was an Italeri Panther, I think I built it around 12, and threw it together in a day, then handpainted it. You, my friend, have more patience than I. Great job, looking forward to more, I love it when young people like us get into this hobby. Its a great thing to do(Especially as opposed to being a couch potato!!). It teaches patience, coordination, craftsmanship and professionalism. It also makes us want to improve every time we build another model, which a great way to think if you want to make it in life. But enough rambling, as I said before, great job, and I'm really looking forward to more.

Great job Jonathon. Smile [:)]  Nice work on the camo - 3-tone camo can be intimidating at the best of times, but you did great.

That's a nice build JonathanThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].  You did most things right and very little wrong.  Like many others have said, I wasn't doing anything near that well when I was ten.

You have all the basics right.  The parts are all nicely cleaned, seams properly filled, no glue showing.  All in all, you did a very neat job in building it.

Your index card camo came out pretty well; you did a nice job wrapping the camo around tube on the side of the hull.  Overall your weathering is pretty good, particularly because you put more of the dirt on the wheels and lower on the tank rather than simply giving it an overall coating.  One area that should have a bit more dirt on it, although it would be a bit trickier to do now that it's assembled is the side of the hull behind the wheels.  Another improvement would be to dirty up the decals a bit.  For future builds, it is better to paint the model and add the decals before doing any weathering.

We'll look forward to seeing more of your work.  It's always nice to young people taking this up as a hobby.

Nice job.  I'm building the same one right now.  I've been using your images to help me out. (Thanks)  This is the first model I've worked on in years(I'm 42)

I noticed,, following the directions, I put the hatch on (as the directions called for) then I couldn't get the figure in!! lol.   Keep up the good work.

Great...I've spent nearly a thousand bucks on tools and supplies, read bunches of books and articles, and still a 10 year old beats me to the ground!
