Ok, so I got my chrome applied :
A little clever masking got the headlight rings too, but I wasn't about to try it on the tiny bonnet handles. The colour of the Alclad II is nice, I like it, though I'm not completely blown-away at it's resembalance to chrome. Maybe one of the buffing paints is better ?, or maybe in a larger scale ?(usually used on 1/25 scale cars) or maybe even more polish is needed under it? Anyway, it is a joy to spray, very easygoing to apply, straight from the bottle, like it says(Do Not Thin)
Wheel hubs we're sprayed with the usual circle template with no mishaps
Afterward, tires were drybrushed with Floquil Grimy Black, then Grimy & Primer Grey to bring up the meager tread detail. A little dusty dirt in the treads and they will be done.
All the tiny bits of this kit are very tiny, but importaint, these handles are a very elegant addition on the real Citroen. I sprayed these parts on the sprue, clipped them off and finished spraying whilst holding them in tweezer. Probablly had the paint in the AB too long doing it.
It was however a real pain to get the airbrush clean, even with the patented Alclad II Laquer Air Brush Cleaner I had bought some time back, as a just-in-case. It seems the Alclad formed some sizable metal flakes inside my AB. I would reccomend NOT using your best detail gun( as I did), and working fast,( as I didn't) This cleaner is very similar to regular laquer thinner(going by the odor), I couldn't tell if it was any more effective , I tried both. The thing that really saved me during cleaning, was this :
It's the latest thing in toothpicks! Have you seen these?)It's the tiniest tube-brush I've ever seen, and works great for AB clean-up, you can find them in the toothcare dept. at the local drugstore in 5-packs. Ok, on to assembly ~ pretty soon things will really take shape ! Thanks for hangin in!
