Haven't built a rail in years - this should be fun. So it begins
Thanks,
John
I have that same set of JWTBM decals in the stash, so will be following this with much interest.
Am I right in recalling that some tweaking of the front spoiler 'wings' configuration is required?
Greg
George Lewis:
I'll have to look at that Greg. A few tiny steps. Trying to figure out how to get the carbon fiber decal to settle down. Tires need a dull coat and wheels test fitted. So fun!
Greg - going the wrong way with the carbon fiber? I know the hi-rise snornkle scoops are carbon fiber, might be more authentic here to do a black scoop... just wanted to play with those decals :0
Wheels secured and flat applied
John, those fat ol' slicks look great!
As to the carbon fiber on the blowers, the pattern is usually split right/left right down the center line, as shown in these 'typical' views:
In truth, however, the pattern is actually rarely visible from more than a foot or so away...as shown in this shot of Dixon's car in the pits at the 2005 Gatornationals:
So if you want to paint it a solid black or charcoal grey, that would work just fine!
Rock on!
I'm not sure how one would paint carbon fiber to scale, or even close. Pretty challenging look. I never seem to see these kits for sale. This should look really cool when you complete it.

On the bench:
A lot !! And I mean A LOT!!
2024 Kits on deck / in process / completed

Used carbon fiber, but didn't to the cool center split.
I find Alclad aluminum to be pretty durable in terms of handling but the titanium is very sensitive. I'll need to touch up the valve covers. Any how, test fitting a few painted bits
It's amazing when you take a picture and look.... I'm stripping the super charger and the valve covers.....
Wow, I can't even find a rail kit anymore. Except the really old stuff like the 60s.
Reworked a couple things - coming along
Wow, now that is very cool. I have to ask where you got or how you did the carbon fiber in scale.
Thanks Brandon. The carbon fiber is decal. Google it and you can find it in various scales. Super thin decal.
Super awesomem, looking forward to seeing the build!
I've only partially wired one or two motors. This beast has dual magnetos so 2x the wires. Need to figure out a couple things but the wires are in the holes.

looking good John!
Buddy- Those who say there are no stupid questions have never worked in customer service.
Thanks for the kind comments all. Here's a little mock up - getting there
You do great work.

Looking very good. I should have kept the two kits I had but I sold them. Welp. I'll have to find some others.
Ted - really appreciate your comments.
BK - go get one, a bit of flash cleanup on parts - otherwise really fun to build.
Here's a couple more pics on a more eye friendly background - just about to paint the body so I did a test fit.
Tamiya primer, Tamiya blue, Tamiya clear..... grrrrrr
Paint stripped and repainted. Decaling
Decals need to settle but calling this one done. Super fun kit- Decals made the whole thing pop
Really beautiful result! It looks all ready to 'light the pipes' for a fast four-second quarter mile.
Excellent build!
Nice!
Man that DID turn out nice John! Really looks good pal.
That, John, is almost unspeakably kool.
Sorry I missed this earlier. You did a really, really nice job.
So what happened with the primer/blue/clear? I can't figure it out from the pic. Whatever it was, way to recover and move on.
