I should have added that 1:12 and 1:8 are also popular model car scales.  Revell has done kits in both scales, and Tamiya has done several in 1:12. Oh- forgot 1:20 scale, popular with some Japanese mfgers.

Greg

What a great collection! Yes

On a side note, I visited the Ringling Museum in Sarasota a few days ago. It has an entire 1/16 scale circus. I wondered where the cars in the parking lot came from in that scale.

Could you shed any light? I'm completely unfamiliar with 1/16 scale.

Gregg- years ago Aurora put out a number of early cars in 1:16.  I have built a Mercer and a Stutz, and just found two kits for my stash, a 1911 Buick and a 1909 Rambler.

They are still available at show flea markets and via eBay.  They must have sold well.  Minicraft does a number of 1:16 cars of twenties and thirties.  Some of these are still being produced and available in hobby shops.  These kits are a step up from the Aurora ones, and a couple, MG-TC and Jaguar SS-100 have delightful wire wheels.

I have built several of the Minicraft 16th scale kits.  They were great! Their wire wheels are great.

Also built a couple of the Aurora old cars, Stutz and Mercers, modified as racing versions.

not sure what your question is Greg--But I will copy my records, and bring them to the liabrary Saterday.  The liabrary is closed Friday. And thay only give you 1-hour.

Oh, no research project needed, Santa.

I am just asking where your 1/16th collection came from. Plastic kits? Die cast collectors cars? Something else?

I'd simply never seen a 1/16th car until the musuem trip, and wondered how to came to acquire yours.

Thanks for your input OMG & Rob. So there were assembly kits available.

Really like your taste in classic autos Santa. That (Bandai?) boat tail Duesy looks really interesting, would love to see more pics of that one.

I remember assembling the Entex 1/16 Packard Formal Sedan when it was first released in the mid-70's. It was quite nicely molded and went together without a lot of problems if I recall. Wish I still had it! The only 1/16 kit I've built since then is the recent Revell Isetta which was a lot of fun and takes up very little space.

I've got a couple of 1/16 Monogram parts kits Ferraris that I need to unload. Neither is complete and would love to get them to someone who could use them. Some of the sprues are untouched.

Till he replies: I've gotten some from ebay, Greg. Course there are some in production too but the era I like is mostly old stock. My two 1/16 Minicraft Model A's were sealed never opened stock. My 1/16 Entex Mercer, my now passed wife gave me 40 some odd years ago. I'm surprised by that Packard the OP shows, never seen that one out there and would like to know more about that.

1/16 to me, at least in automotive models is an awesome size to work in, wish there were more of them ! 1/24 is pretty nice too though, I've been watching ebay for a Monogram Packard touring car to come up . Just sayin
